So, it opens November 23th. The setting sure is going to be grand, that museum building looks amazing. Who's going? Someone wrote to me "oh no it's around thanksgiving" - what does this mean, is it like this thanksgiving thing is something during which USA closes down or something, or is it just massive traffic delays and horrible airport mob scenes and nasty scenes in hotel lobbies? What's Seattle really like, I only know it from the Frasier episodes, never having seen the reportedly awful "Sleepless in Seattle" film. And most importantly, are there going to be any good parties in Seattle, not just coffee breaks!? Can we do something about this? Is it going to be worth going?

Well, I'm not going to the expo and I've never been to Seattle (only Spokane) but as far as Thanksgiving...

This is THE "Family and Friends Holiday" in the US. (I'm assuming you're not being facetious and really do want and explanation.) Except for retail business, most companies will give their employees a 4-day weekend, Thursday - Sunday. This year, the holiday begins on November 28. Normally, travelling just before or just after the holiday is a real bitch of a time. You might be OK, the 23rd and all, but how long does the expo last?

You should also know our airlines are having a lousy time since September 11 --- bankruptcies, downsizing, altered routes, anything to save a little money. You should call now and make sure one of them is still going to Seattle or if they're making you walk from Nevada. Just kidding... but you really should check if you bought tickets some time ago. Things have and are changing daily.

Thanks for explaining that Thanksgiving thing - one of those national holiday affairs then that we do not get here up north, or anywhere else in europe. I have of course heard about it on tv but never really knew what the whole fest was all about. - The Seattle expo I believe is a permanent one, meaning a room dedicated to disco in the museum. I still have not recieved any specific info on the opening party - if there isn't one then I'll forget it. One has to be treated to a proper boogie night if one drags his ass over from the other side of the globe, right?
