Although "Soul Makossa " was a big track on my floor what really got the crowd going was "Big Blow".
The saxfunker had some incredible stuff. "Abele Dance" and of course
"Soul Makossa" (I never get tired of it)

Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah. I always thought that Manu's (original) version of Soul Makossa was the least danceable and played Afrique's (it was just that bit harder I suppose). However, Big Blow was an incredible slice of top drawer Jazz-Funk. Certainly in my top 25 all time faves.
BTW: Does this mean, for example, that Gino Soccio could be in a future Brit Disco thread, as Manu was from a French colony (independant by the time Makossa came out?)?
I did play the Afrique version as well. The albums still in my collection somewhere. I seem to remember that Afrique consisted of session men .with the great David T.Walker on guitar.
