Exclamation Forgotton Heroes? Kid "Dr. Buzzard" Creole

Where has he gone? Last time I can remember some new output it was Prince's "Sex of it".

The guy has flair and I still can remember having such a good time when seeing him live on the "Lifeboat Party Tour".

I saw Kid Creole and the Coconuts perform at Boston Common about 20 years ago. It was right after he did the song "Male Curiousity" for the movie, Against All Odds. It sure was a crowd pleaser. I enjoyed it as well. :-)

This may shock you, but I loved the Kid Creole records from the eraly '80s. Stool Pigeon was probably my favourite. Must seek out a greatest hits CD (if it exists).

Interesting that they did not include "My Male Curiosity" on that cd Bernie. It's very popular :o

Video , all this are great! :p That I haven't seen many of this, and trully forgot the others:cry: .

That song "wonderful thing baby" still is great as well as "Annie" :p
this 'Top of the pop" appearance is better IMO , check out the Girls choreography, is so cool :p

    "Annie I'm not your daddy"

Both "My Male curiosity" (I forgot about the movie "agains all odds" :-o)and "Que Pasa/Me no pop I" (side 2 of the 1980 -12") were massive hits down here in Miami, one of the few early raps I liked and played, I'm listening to it now and Coati Mundi coughs during the recording:o:grin:

Love them, and all the off-shoot projects - Elbow Bones, Gichy Dan, Coati Mundi, the Coconuts solo lp, etc.

I found a dvd of one of their late 80's/early 90's concerts - probably for the Great Divide Tour - great show.

    It's hard to come up with favorites - probably;
    With a Girl Like Mimi
    I'll Play the Fool
    Seven Year Itch
    It's a Wonderful Life
    Annie I'm Not Your Daddy
    Stool Pigeon
    Corey's Song
    Caroline Was a Drop-Out
    Mr. Love
    Gigilo & Me
Loving You Made a Fool of Me
    I'm Corrupt
    Our Love Will Always Stand
    Ticket to the Tropics

    ....OK I'll stop now!

I've watched that CHERCHEZ video about a dozen times now ...stellar !!!

The first album ....way up there on a level all its own ....optimistic, confident , creatively arranged and sung .... lyrically rich ...... Shocking really ... how this just dropped upon us seemingly out of nowhere .....

From that first sharp trumpet blast past the first bar .... followed by those tinkling of the chimes of Cherchez ....you just knew this vibrant project was special ....a labour of love ..

Big dive after that ....second LP a desperate attempt to mirror the first ....afterward the brother departed dispelling the magic .... and it was nevr the same .

The Kid Creole stuff to me are playful offerings but not well guided .... scattered attempts using wonderfully varied instruments that don't culminate into cohesive tunes ..... never jelling into anything you could sink your teeth into. Lightweight "Kid's" play (IMO ) .........(exception : Endicott )

    But as a producer ..... Don Armando+ , Machine , Odyssey: .....8)8)8)

    + correction: executive producer only

Re: Forgotton Heroes? Kid "Dr. Buzzard" Creole

"Que pasa/Me no Pop I" was a hit here too. Of course the Spanish rap helped:

    Ay, mujer mía
    qué quieres de mi vida
    yo te trato bien
y todavía tú no está feliz!

I love this track, and was very pleased to see Kid Creole with Coconuts and Coati Mundi performing it, just like they do in the record, in a little U.S. movie called DOWNTOWN 1981. This small gem -scripted by NY writer Glenn O'Brien and directed by fashion photographer Edo Bertoglio- was filmed in NY in 1981 and shows the new wave/no wave bands of the time in their real ambience. It stars the late Jean-Michel Basquiat and has appearances by Debbie Harry, DNA, Tuxedomoon and many other bands. Not much of a storyline, but highly recommended as a portrait of its time.
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

I've always wondered about that, but kept thinking, "WTF? Why would they put that on the record?"

    Love that song, anyway!

A word of caution about this youtube videos or any others, make sure the volume is down as you click on the links, especially if you are wearing headphones like me playing thru a Receiver, the video sound in this clip

    "Wonderful thing baby"
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN_oWSEizec
is recorded extremely high !!!!, and the opening 'clash' is so loud and full of distortion (compared with the others volume) that it hurt my ears!!!!!:x:x I've had headaches for two days now, now I have to worry everytime I play any of this online videos and first remove my headphones or lower the volume,Youtube should have some type of volume 'limiter' applied to all uploads to avoid this issue!!!! :x

I've seen 2 new Kid Creole and the Coconuts CDs over the past few years but can't remember the titles. And my favorite Kid album, "Wise Guy" has been re-released on an indie label also. I find that album as good as the first, classic Savannah Band album. "Wonderful Thing" and "I'm Corrupt" really knock me out. I thought the group would really explode when people saw how good they were in "Against All Odds".

In 1988, Kid and his Coconuts also performed in in a nightclub scene in an Italian sci-fi murder mystery film by Piccio Raffanini, "Pathos, Segreta Inquietudine / Obsession, A Taste for Fear", out on dvd as the ultimate statement of the 80's visual style: dry ice, blue lightning, the widest shoulderpads in any film, chic lesbians in kinky bondage scenes, lime green and turquoise, postmodern interiors gone horribly ott. Kid Creole, Matt Bianco, the Construction label, tropical shirts and straw hats, Pizzicato Five, bossa nova...bring it on!
