I just heard this song the other day in an oldies radio show, I had forgotten about it completely. All I know is: the artist is called Perucho Conde, it's maybe from Venezuela, and released maybe in 1980.
Can the Latins in this forum confirm this? And who was this Perucho Conde? (It's a humorous piece, so maybe he's an actor.)
This was probably the first rap record in Spanish. Do you remember any others from that era?

Never heard of that song before. I do remember "Que Idea" by Pino Dangio. Big hit in Europe also. Another song was "Rap-O Clap-O" by an artist so out of reach from my memory now.

"Soy la cotorra criolla y aquí estoy pues
con mi cotorra criolla que no habla inglés..."
and then comes a lenghty rant about the high cost of living.

Hi Nano. Every now and then I browse the forums and today I found this post. Since I am from Venezuela I can help.

Pedro "Perucho" Conde was a very famous Venezuelan comedian in the late 70s and early 80s. I remember this song very well because it was a big hit when it came out in early '79 --just after The Sugar Hill Band released "Rappers' Delight."

If I remember correctly, he released another "Cotorra" (the Venezuelan slang for "Rap") a couple of years later but it was a disappointment. He did a few other songs in the mid and late 80s and all failed.

As far I know he is now in his late 60s and retired from TV. In fact, recently I saw an article in El Universal, one of Caracas' major newspapers, where he and other comedians from that same period were talking about being unable to find decent jobs in television.

If you want, you can e-mail me the lyrics and I will "translate" them for you. I remember there is a lot of Venezuelan slang from that time so it may be hard for you to understand exactly what he is saying. For example, I remember a line where he says something like: "...porque vivo en el 23..." He is talking about "23 de Enero" a higly populated poor area of Caracas. I'll be glad to help you with that if you want.
