Baby, take me
high upon a hillside
high up where the stallion
meets the sun
Yep! Although I played a lot of the big/hot Disco records too.
What the heck is Reunited doing on that list?!!!! LOL!
I haven't heard the Mandrill track (or maybe I have, but forgot), but I have heard the War track. It's already. An uptempo dance track which is somewhat stale and plain. Galaxy is a much funkier dance track. Too bad they didn't keep that groove in the first two verses going throughout the song. I'm not too crazy about the jerky 'outta sight, outta sight' stop and go groove.
Disco Funk
Bill Summers jazzy "Straight to the bank" is the pick for me. Bell and James rank a very close second with "Livin' it up" which has echoing "walkie talkie like voices" which works quite well in this song but hasn't held up in the hundreds of other songs that have later employed it.
It's too bad that Mandrill track isn't on their Anthology. It's a later Arista track.

It so happens I have this Mandrill NEW WORLDS LP handy
(don't be too impressed .... its a fluke )
HAVING A LOVE ATTACK is an impressive uptempo funk track .... a simple but head boppin' bass line .... synth similated strings .... gravelly lead vocal backed by first rate male harmonies (The Drells in sound)
first break features a salsa style piano
then some nice wailing guitar work is introduced off of a gruffly held vocal note
second ( too short... 15 seconds) break follows as a jungle percussion .... sticks .... congas
Out there at the disco
There to step and catch
Lookin' for the one that'll set your heart on fire .....
Love attack
Having a love atttack
Can't turn back when you 're caught
Caught in love
Song way too short .....(4:56) .... was a 12 " made of this ??? :-?
someone looking for some good circa '78 - '79 funk ... at times latin infused .... this album is sincere .....it's too bad Mandrill didn't achieve bigger recognition off this .....
Anybody know how well this album did ?
Great musicianship & vocals thoughout .... added (real) strings here and there ......weakest link : lyrics

Never mind what Peaches & Herb's slowie was doing in the list....Why was Rod Stewart in there?
My faves are the Jackie McClean and Bell & James' tracks too, the Jackie McClean 12" being one of the great undiscovered tracks of the period, IMO.
So far as War are concerned, Galaxy was by far their best ever Disco track, Good Good Feelin' was pretty good, but one of their absolute best was You Got The Power from some years later. We played 'em a hell of a lot in the early-mid '70s too with Me & Baby Brother tearing up the dance floor the most.
Their disco version of The World Is a Ghetto was sublime, especially the full version with its cold end. They obviously played the whole (13 minutes?) from beginning to end. No multiple edits or remixing of sections to stretch it out (one imagines, but I could be very wrong).
Love "Keep Your Body Workin" by Kleer! I thought this one charted on the Disco chart too-another great funk track that came out around the same time is "Fire Up" by the ADC Band-does anyone remember that track?
I like a lot of their cuts like Slipping Into Darkness, Lowrider, and even Why Can't We Be Friends, but Me & Baby Brother is their HARDEST funk cut as far as I'm concerned. Love that track. Too bad its so damn short. They did a remake of it on The World Is A Ghetto, and called it Baby Brother, but it wasn't as good as the orig.
Disco Funk
That Mandrill LPNew Worlds on Arista did moderately well commercially peaking at number 30 on the Black albums charts and 134 on pop charts.
City Country City was also played in some clubs. I remember NickNack giving it a mention.
DiscoFunk: Have you heard You Got The Power (from '82?)? That has one hell of a dance groove. My fave's will always be Galaxy, followed by M&BB and YGTP. I played all the others you mentioned and they all got good dancefloor reaction. A very good band indeed. I really ought to get a greatest hits CD.

I also just happened upon Kleer's KEEP YOUR BODY WORKIN' ( you're correct on the title Thommy )
It is very fitting for the period ........including the Foxy ooah ooahs ....sort of Rick James overall .... (and someone took some post production time to lay quite a string arrangement on top of it ) .... nice bridge song .... could mix out from it at any time as it is a continuous groove ... no change outs ... with a very forefronted bass line ... ... .... Its a rather long seeming tune ... even at 5:10 .... I was itchin' to mix into The Bombers GET DANCIN' along the way .....
As for War .... put me down for GALAXY too .... and GYPSY MAN deserves a mention .....

Kleers "Never cry again" remix was always there biggest track for my floor.War released a greatest hits double cd , incuding remixes, in the U.K. about 3 or 4 years ago.
