    Hey fellas,

Recently, our dear friend Marky mentioned Irene Cara on a post. I'm wondering what happened to Irene Cara - she simply disapeared from the record industry. She released an album produced by Giorgio Moroder in 1983 (does anyone remeber a song called WHY ME?) and since then I hear nothing about this fine singer. Anyone here knows what happened to her?

    Hey Zeca,

Thanks for the "dear friend". I feel the same about you and Blax. Irene Cara had some drug problems and her career never recovered. I haven't heard of her in a long time...either as a singer or an actress.

BUT, I do remember "Why Me" and "The Dream" and even "Breakdance". The divas always shone when working with Mr. Moroder.

Irene made a movie with another "troubled" actress who shared a similar problem, Tatum O'Neill.....was it ever released?....I have visions of them running and hiding and lots of water.....what was it called or am I in a time warp...ooh but what a feeling!

    Dear Friends!
IRENE CARA made a cover of her own "What A
Feeling" with DJ BOBO(one of the worst
musicians ever), but it was a big hit in
    Europe. She is still alive...
Does anyone remember this crazy "Breakdancin"
    with her and Giorgio???

    Hey Dance Man,

are you talkin' about SPARKLE, the movie that has a soundtrack by Curtis Mayfield and Aretha Franklin? It was released in the mid 70's. I never saw the movie, but I know Irene Cara is one of the actresses of SPARKLE.

    Hey Marky,

you're right, Mister Moroder had his way with divas. Let's see if I remebmer the divas who worked with him... DONNA (of course), ROBERTA KELLY, MADLEEN KANE, DEBBIE HARRY & BLONDIE ("Call Me"), CHRIS. I forgot anyone?

A few more who come to mind: Olivia Newton-John, Janis Ian, The Three Degrees, Suzi Lane (does she count as a diva...?)

Thanks Zeca...No it wasn't "Sparkle" where she played the title character...a great movie VERY loosely based on The Supremes which in turn inspired "Dreamgirls"......I saw it in the movie theater and sat through it twice and then ran out and bought the soundtrack......The movie that I am thinking about is post-Flashdance - I found out since my last post - called "Certain Fury" (1985)and she played a character called Scarlet....try and find that one on DVD, hardly.

    Hi Dance man,

thanx for the movie info. I didn't saw Sparkle yet, but I have the soundtrack and it's soooo beautiful. Aretha is SINGING all these beautiful songs produced and written by Curtis Mayfield.

BTW, Dance man, you have an impressive "curriculum vitae". Your posts are great, with lots of valuable information for us all, soul/disco fans! Keep writing, my friend.

I also have the "Sparkle" album and it's one of my favorites of all Aretha's career.

Yep, "Sparkle" was my favorite mid-70's Aretha LP. My faves were "Something He Can Feel" and "Hooked On Your Love". I love that drum part: "hooked on your love" boom-boom-boom...whatever...I'm at work...so no can play.

As far as Irene Cara goes, I went to IMDB and they list no credits for her since 1992.
    Where IS she, I wonder?????

Don't fret, Marky. Maybe she just married.

I've read that Irene Cara has been strung out on cocaine for damn near 15 years! Thats a shame because she is very talented and showed potential for a long-term singing career.

Does anyone remember a movie that Irene starred in called "Sisters"? She was the youngest of three sisters and co-starred with Diahnn Carroll and Rosalind Cash. Paul Winfield also starred in it. I think it was made for tv back in the early 80's?

    Yeah, Hustle...

It was called "Sister, Sister", based on a Maya Angelou script. Televised in 1982.
