It's been mentioned that maybe there have been a tad too many gay sexual innuendo comments made here lately. Gawd, knows I'm as guilty as anybody. Sometimes I just gotta go for that grossout shocker.

    I'm just asking!!!!!!!

A certain someone has pointed out to me that my asking about "restraining comments" is akin to Barbra & Diana asking Dr. Phil for self-esteem counselling. I know..it's pretty out there. Well the hetero's are getting kinda frisky around here too, I've noticed.

    Maybe it's no big whoop.

I am here to share my interest in disco but if you want to go on, I don't mind, but don't expect too much feedback from me.

    Just being honest.
If you buy this record your life, will be better.

I couldn't care less Marky. I may ask for some definitions though. I have not fully cracked the gay codes yet
Hey, Delight just ripped me a new one for my locker room potty mouth, so how much criticism can I give anyone else here for there vernacular

No problems, Marky!! NO BIG WHOOP!!

I wish more people could enjoy a joke or two...makes the world a better place.. IMHO

And you know how sensible I am !!!

On a slightly more sensible note, the soul music scene I was into in southern England in the late 70's/early 80's was 100% pure HEDONISM. We enjoyed the music, we took it seriously, but boy, did we have a lot of fun as well!! So there's nothing wrong with having a little bit of fun, now and then, is there?

MARKY: IMHO It does rather ostracize some of us.
Surely there are hundreds of gay sites that are really into gay jokes. And you wonder why gays are sometimes frowned upon?
Personally, I couldn't care less, but it does make the posts rather too cliquey, on what is already an esoteric site, and I and others probably just butt out.
If you want this to become a gay site then keep on, otherwise a little restraint could go a long way.

What about when you guys talk about the Northern Soul scene and discuss songs most of us have never heard of, that's not cliquey?

Yes, it is cliquey. But we all must have in our minds that disco music is a big blend of musical genders......and why not....sexual genders!! So, a little of "cliques" or "gangs" are inevitable.
Anyway, different gangs but not rivals, right?

I personally would go on a "forum strike" if Marky's humour was restrained in any way.

I'm a huge fan of his and I'm giving him "thumbs up" as both a lesbian and a music fan.

I don't have a problem with the gay jokes. Now, if you guys start topics about the "sexiest people" and "Anna Nicole Stits" be prepared to tolerate huuuge posts about "mounds between women's legs" and "fish-like" odors...
Of course I have no problems either with HustleBaby talking about what turns her on... Now I just had a shower... maybe I should send some private postage to that lady...

Yeah, but she was just kidding. I could read the smile on her face. She was like Phylicia Rashad bawling out Bill Cosby on their old Thursday night Must-See TV sitcom.

hi NRG its dissapointing to me you replied to QUINNYS post in this way considering the topic isnt even about music, nobodys being cliquey about northern soul here, we are all different people from different nations with different musical histories thats why i love it here.i have learned a lot here observing other peoples tastes i love to see ZECCAS posts speaking of great soul singers like linda jones,i love to see BLAXMANS love of all things funk and JAZZ-PILGRIMS across the board taste and MARKYS facts and figures and perhaps the one i admire the most FUNKY DUDE with his endless quest to search out great music made before he was born. perhaps we [or i]do go on a bit about northern soul that just comes about from a deep love of it
northern soul so called as it was a scene born in the north of england nobody is happy with that term named by a journalist in 1971 its a scene of mainly old music[70s being the new 60s]that keeps progressing and always has something new to offer and jusk keeps getting bigger and bigger in england and spreading like wildfire across europe[with a much younger audience]all the way to australia.if you ever got to visit an all night club where people are only interested in the music, nobody wants to stab you or put a bottle across your head wether youre 18 or 48 it dosnt matter as everybody is the same you can dance all night or just watch the incredible style of dancing, buy records from the record bars or just make friends you would see what an amazing scene it is and the atmosphere well its just something that cant be explained.everybody here is so proud of that scene they helped create,my proudest moment was in the mid 70s being a member of wigan casino all nighter a run down delapidated old ballroom that was practcally falling down. one light above the dancefloor ,toilets one foot high with water a place where people hitch-hiked to from all over the country 100s of miles with only enough money to get in and no idea how they were gonna get home was visited by some americans,2 months later it was voted best club in the world over studio 54.
my point is northern soul is not an alien form of music it is music made by BLACK AMERICA shunned by AMERICA northern soul IS heading your way but once america has woken up it will be too late as we have a saying here "there are more rare american n/soul records lining english dealers shelves than in the wole of america" sad but true

MARKY: AS you're one of the old'uns here, and talking of Bill Cosby; Do you remember Little Ol' Man by him from about 1972. Perhaps that was the first disco rap song?
For anyone who doesn't remember it or has never heard of it, Bill did a talk over the instrumental to Stevie Wonder's 'Uptight'. For my money it was better than Stevie's original and used to get up dancing their proverbial socks off in Southampton's suburbia. I used to love that record.

DISCODISK: I think the same thing happened to all jocks that played it. Certainly I remember a woman asking me for Bing. PA systems were wickedly inferior in those days (ours was all of 100 watts - wow!!) and we'd barely heard of Bill Cosby, so the mistake was almost certainly going to happen.

Now, see guys how a thread develops????!!!!

Gay Sexual Innuendo has turned into old Bill Cosby records!!!! Hey, I don't care in the least.

I once asked a question about Ibiza and sometime into the thread, Jussi spilled some of the dirtiest gossip I've ever read! It had nothing to do with Ibiza--but the names of Tom Cruise, Wesley Snipes and a certain Material Girl were dropped, as well as a few jaws--mine included!!!! So, ya see sometimes the thread grows in far more interesting ways than the original question asked.

So now I will say I do remember the Bill Cosby record as a "novelty record"--BUT my question is--how did the phrase "Up Tight" that Stevie Wonder sang about as a "good thing": "Baby, everything's all right, up tight, outta sight!!!"--become a Negative Thing??? As in frustrated, pent up???

Did Stevie NOT understand the meaning of the term OR did the meaning change AFTER he recorded the song????

I'm just wondering how long it will take to get a link to gay sites, since there are soooo many queens coming to this one.
