I'm so excited, I''ve just discovered Carly Simon's "Why" and it drives me mad...this song is huge! So I needed to start a thread about rodgers/edwards :D

Can anyone suggest me some other rodgers/edwards productions in that style? Love the mix of drummachines and real piano...

I know the productions for chic, sister sledge, diana ross...it seems difficult to find a list of their complete work on the web. But I'm sure there must be some further hidden treasures out there

I'm thankful for any clue. Or just confirm how fantastic this song is :lol:

Get the "Soup For One" soundtrack...it's an obscure movie from the early Eighties for which Rodgers/Edwards composed the music. The Carly Simon track is from that...along with...Debbie Harry (they produced her "Koo Koo" LP), Teddy Pendergrass, Sister Sledge, Fonzi Thornton and it has a great instrumental (not disco) called "Tavern on The Green"...sorta classical, acoustic and beautiful...not like anything else they ever did.:grin:

Don't forget about Spacer by Sheila & B. Devotion, I believe they produced that entire album.

Also Norma Jean - High Society, Saturday, I Like Love, etc.

Rodgers & Edwards are some of my favorite producers, along with people like, Patrick Adams, Thom Bell, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Burt Bacharach, all these people have such distinctive styles, you can usually tell right off when they write/produce something.....

I listened to debbie harry album kookoo, it's not that good, i only liked the slow one "now I know you"

Norman jean wright is cool too, very boogie...I guess High Society has been inspiration for Mtume's So you wanna be a star

But nothing comes close to "why" :lol:

BTW "Spacer" (Sheila) has been sampled for another european dance hit: Alcazar - Crying at the discotheque. rodgers/edwards productions always work...i wonder how much they pay for sampling all their stuff over and over again :roll:

Totally agree with you...nowadays it's much harder to find such productions. That's why I like Neptunes productions, they really have their own handwriting. the chords and melodies they use are special, the sounds and the beat programming lets you know who's behind it...

But I should start a new threat to discuss them guys ;)

An interesting Nile Rodgers production is the song ''Workin' Overtime'' sung by Diana Ross. It's interesting because Diana sang like Janet Jackson.

You're on the money about the Neptunes, that cat Pharrell is definitely on another level than most of the people out there now, When I was doing beats/songs back in the day, it's the kind of stuff he's doing now, that I thought we should have been doing then. Of course no one took me seriously....lol

Speaking of Nile Rodgers and the Neptunes, I've uncovered Pharrell using a part from a song by Al Jarreau (produced by Nile Rodgers, 1986) for Kelis first album.

"Koo Koo" is the only Chic production I was pretty disappointed with. That album's "Backfired" is the only track on it I really liked. I think the problem was that the Chic team only wrote half the songs. I also found a wonderful Chic song on an old Odysey album. And I know of 2 songs I love that they played on but didn't write or produce: "Dreaming" by Stacy Lattisaw (beautiful ballad) and "Think Too Much" by Paul Simon. And at one point, grammy winning producer Narada Michael Walden REALLY seemed to be imitating the Chic production style, and did a good job in my opinion ("I Shoulda Loved Ya").
