Hi Boodika,
the song you are looking for maybe is "you caught between a good thing and goodbye" by Anita Ward from her second album( I think It was "sweat surrender").
Hope that helps
Asked this years ago and no one knew, so let's try again.
This would have been released May/June 1979:
"I'm caught between love...
and a hard place...
Caught between love and a hard place...".
It's very mid-tempo, and sounds a bit Italo.
Any ideas?

George, thanks so much for responding. I'll check out the Anita Ward. The song I'm looking for sounds kind of like something by Midnight Rhythm. Rough male vocals singing the chorus, with heavy handclaps akin to Desiree's "Mi Amore" after the chorus.
I'm truly starting to believe this song was some sort of hallucination.

Dear Goddess,
Maybe this is it: "Between Love And A Hard Place" by Jim Grady. Came out in 1979 on Chanterelle (Canada?). It's off the lp TOUCH DANCIN'. I only have his promo 12" of 'Touch' but the guy does a lot of overdubbing, vocals ranging between Macho and Bee Gees. The intro does have a slight Mantus feel but he pulls away from it quickly.
You knows I luvs ya so had to share.:D

Nickadocious, thank you! I'm gonna check it out. It would have been released about late June of '79. I was really starting to doubt my sanity with this. IDRC sent me a promo which was "borrowed" by an ex.
I supplicate at your feet and genuflect in your general direction, meu amor!
