What song takes you back in time?

Whenever I hear Blondie's version of The Tide Is High, It reminds me of the winter of 1980, when we lived in a house with no central heating, just a gas fire in the lounge which broke down. So we all had to huddle into the warmest place in the house - i.e. the kitchen, with the TV in tow, until it was repaired :-? :roll:

My first time to Hawaiii I met a guy with a sail boat and we decided to sail to the island of Lanai ...a smaller one near Maui only reachable by boat.
I don't know why ...but we went in the middle of the night . I'd never sailed before and he reviewed nothing about it with me ....and off we went .
It was beautiful watching the lights of Honolulu get smaller and smaller as the beach front finally disappeared from view .

As we sailed into the dead of night ,we noticed that the swells kept getting bigger and bigger . Then they got really big and it started raining
The weather started geting rough and that tiny ship was tossed ! I don't know how much courage this fearless crew had .....I simply didn't know any better , as I found the dipping of the boat to be kind of exciting. My friend was debating should we continue or turn around and go back ..

But when a wave came up and over and almost turned us sideways my friend seemed pretty worried and said we were going back.Then he climbed up the main mast to change some things with me at the wheel ( helm ? ) He was shouting thru the pouring rain orders for me to do certain things .... which I had no idea what he was talking about ...so I just started doing whatever ......and somehow we got those sails changed and got ourselves safely back to Waikiki. We set out again the next day on smooth clear beatiful water .

The hit song at the time that I'll never forget coming on the radio playing as background that night ?

Well, excellent opportunity to give ya the story behind my (untill 2 weeks ago) desperate search for Hot Blood's "Soul Dracula".

When that record came out, and it was a big hit in the Benelux, I was 11 years old.

My uncle owned a ghosttrain, very scary at that time but he also owned an erotic variety show. The theme that year was black magic and exorcism :-o

I spare you the details of the show inside coz' I wasn't allowed to view it, but it was an illusion where a naked girl was transformed into a living skeleton, surrounded by a group of topless witches :-o

But there was also a floorshow on the stage outside to attract the public and there the girl was also very scary, dressed in a black robe and looking very trancy into the human's eyes. The song that accompanied that act was "Soul Dracula" and BITD it gave me absolute shivers.

Even now, being the real man and hunk you all know, the voice on that record still "captures" me :-o

These are great tales.
I was just talking to one of the guys I work with, about how much things have changed when you go to the cinema these days - i.e. It's not so special anymore thanks to multiplexes. There's no woman at the front selling ice creams and nuts, no grand staircase to ascend, etc. Anyway, Also Sprach Zarathurstra (Theme From 2001: A Space Odyssey) by Deodato reminds of the day I went to see a movie (Muppet Movie I think, in 1977) and they played it in the cinema between ads and trailers. Funny how things like that can be regurgitated by music.
