    Re: Donna Summer Survivor

As creator of this installment of Discomusic.com's Survivor series, I believe it's my duty to bump one off from the SECOND Queen Of Disco:

    45. OUR LOVE (Bad Girls, 1979)

    7. COULD IT BE MAGIC (A Love Trilogy, 1976))
    14. I FEEL LOVE (I Remember Yesterday, 1977)
    15. ONCE UPON A TIME/FASTER AND FASTER TO NOWHERE/FAIRY TALE HIGH/SAY SOMETHING NICE (Once Upon A Time, 1977)
    16. NOW I NEED YOU/WORKING THE MIDNIGHT SHIFT/QUEEN FOR A DAY (Once Upon A Time, 1977)
"Everyone knows the real reason why you got that part it was the time you spent on that casting couch"--Antoine Merriwether
"Excuse me, Miss Thing, but both of us spent time on that couch"--Blaine Edwards

I Can't believe you ditched the best and left a handful of mediocrity. Please remove
NOW I NEED YOU/WORKING THE MIDNIGHT SHIFT/QUEEN FOR A DAY (Once Upon A Time, 1977) from the list

OK, I've stayed out of this--but it's actually gone quite well.

    for the runner-up slot , I'll pick:

    15. ONCE UPON A TIME/FASTER AND FASTER TO NOWHERE/FAIRY TALE HIGH/SAY SOMETHING NICE (Once Upon A Time, 1977)

    leaving the WINNER to be....

    4. I FEEL LOVE(I Remember Yesterday, 1977), of course!!!!! :D:D:D It's her LANDMARK RECORD!!! The MOST INFLUENTIAL of all her records.

I agree. And one of the most influential for disco.

    Re: Donna Summer Survivor

I apologize for the lack of good taste in bringing this thread forward today of all days.
    I wasn't thinking--I've been dazed all day.
I was looking for some lively discussions of Donna's music...and the music does survive,
but it just hit me that this was in bad taste to bring forth today
and I am mortified by my insensitivity.
    Sorry.

    ????

    why?
we love Donna Summer - did then, do now, always will
You can feel it in that game , we loved her music , ( well , I question Svend !) we know it inside and out , we qualify to play such a game and we play because we care - a game for us disco insiders ONLY - .

I FEEL the LOVE in this thread amongst her fans and on this day of immense sadness , it did the heart good to relive it.

    Re: Donna Summer Survivor

remmy --I think this is a very fun thread to read--and a very good demonstration of the way we used to play round here,
So I brought it forward in the morning. Then later in the afternoon I saw the title again and had a queasy feeling about the word "Survivor" in it and thought some might think that was in bad taste to post on the day of her death.
So I erased what I'd written which was kinda jaunty in tone and felt I should apologize.
Not sure if that was necessary but felt that emotions were rather raw today and maybe I was insensitive.

Oh I get it. The title/theme.

BTW I called my first husband tonight for the first time in months. Had to. It was he that owned the lime green Porsche that we wound through the mountains in while playing the new ONCE UPON A TIME tape continuously on our way to see Donna Summer in Tahoe. It was he who said nothing but kissed me hard, smack on the lips in front of some Christian protestors when we were entering to see Donna Summer at the Hollywood Bowl, and it was his apartment above Moby Dicks in the Castro that I set the freshly baked cake out on the sill to cool and an unexpected drizzle melted it in the rain .

And we both commented on how incredulous it was that we had both "survived' beyond our beloved Donna Summer.
