?????????????
This was a big song on pop radio in mid-80s. Has an early hip-hop beat with jazz-like, wailing synths...very distinct melody. Please help!

Can you be a tad more specific. Does it sound like another record? Can you post an sound files for us to hear? Do you know any of the lyrics?
Try Wally Badarou and "Chief Inspector". It's a bit more melodic but tough to come by on CD.
OK, its more of an electro-funk kind of beat, up tempo. I heard it recently on The Wave here in LA.
Those songs listed above aren't hit. This song is more danceable.
I'm thinking Paul Hardcastle here, maybe "Rain Forrest". I have no idea whether he was big in the US though. He did have quite a few hits in Europe apart from "19".
THATS IT!!! THANK YOU.Originally Written by K-Bee
Nice one K-Bee!! Do you have any more rabbits?:icon_mrgreen:
I surprised even myself here Eddie! :icon_mrgreen:
It is not surprising that "Rain Forrest" is the song that set off this thread. The song is a regular on the play-lists today of some Smooth Jazz stations. I heard it a lot on CD101.5 when I lived in NYC, and now hear it again frequently on Smooth Jazz 107.5 here in Atlanta. Don't know if it ever was a hit... but it certainly gets airplay today.
BTW did you guys ever here the sax version that Paul Hardcastle did? It is not too bad, although the original 12" is the ultimate one...
"ON THE BEAT" at http://littlemacho.tripod.com/
it was a hit in detroit for sure, paul hardcastle's early stuff is rediscovered as a result of the 'jazzmasters' cd's he has released over the past 6-7 years. he gets mad airplay with them on the smooth jazz stations. the flipside of 'rainforest' was also breakdance classic [soundchaser].
