    "Disco Not Disco"

I am going to do a radio show that features Disco, but not Disco tunes....what I mean is Disco style tracks recorded by non-(mainstream) Disco artistes.

I am looking for ideas/tunes that I could feature, preferably from the late 70's.

So far, I am considering Elton John, Queen, Cher, Madonna, Bee Gees  (please don't start a debate as to whether the Bee Gees are 'mainstream' :D ), Wild Cherry.

What other tracks were there? Who I have forgotten? BTW I will NEVER play Abba.

Good on ya!!!! Except Marky and a few others would argue that The Visitors in its remixed form was a proper, bona fide Disco track.

Why not look up the unlikely Disco artists section here, to get some inspiration? Everything from crooners to rockers to jazzers, to C&W artists and evrything in between are all featured. Some of 'em are bound to fit the bill. For example; Rolling Stones - Miss You is an obvious one whilst even Manu DiBango - Soul Makossa would be a contender, n'est-ce pas? There's a whole new world out there.

Sniff'n' the tears- Drivers seat, 12inch "disco mix" ( 1978 ) It's timeless and works GREAT on radio.

Great suggestions and thanks Q for pointing me to the list of unlikely Disco artists. Naturally I'm limited in terms of the actual vinyl, but I've got enough relevant tracks to do a pretty decent show.

It won't be this Saturday (27th) as it's already 'in the can' so either the 5th or 12th August.

    Re: "Disco Not Disco"

On the same compilation I discovered the disco version of Volare, the record included this little gem. I think I might have heard it once a few years ago, but forgot about it. It's an infectious groove. I'm not crazy about the way the vocals are mixed (the echo), but it's a nice little dancer.

    Here's some suggestions:

    "You're The Love"-Seals & Crofts
    "Pretty Girls"-Melissa Manchester
    "Love In The Shadows"-Neil Sedaka
    "Shine A Little Love"-ELO
"I Was Made For Dancin'"-Leif Garrett
"You"-Rita Coolidge (not exactly a disco song per se but it has a really infectious syncopation that makes this a really great song IMO)
    "Baby I'm Burnin'"-Dolly Parton
    "Going Going Gone"-Johnny Mathis
    "This Is My Life"-Shirley Bassey
    "Georgy Porgy"-Toto
"Shine On Silver Moon"-Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr.

that's too bad I must say, Abba had the right stuff. I'd pick them over Rolling Stones anytime :icon_mrgreen:

anyway, how about these classic and prog rock tracks that I think are rather disco-like, maybe that's just me I'm weird:

Tony Carey - I won't be home tonight
    Golden Earring - Twilight Zone
    Lake - On the run
