    bootlegmixers

I recently discovered this site that’s entirely dedicated to bootlegmixers from 1978 to 1984 . It is run by a Dutch guy who collects these mixes and he has an incredible collection of 400 or so… Surely some sour purist will think these records suck  but at the time some of these records were true masterpieces of creative cut & paste and really underground!
Although they probably were never played in the Paradise Garage...

Some of the releases in the CS series even looked like Disconet bootlegs:icon_twisted: !!!
I wonder who actually did some of these records??I know that the CS series were made in Italia, but the Hollywood 12"???:-o

Anybody interested in these cut-up records should check this link

    1.Hollywood (1978-1979)
    2.Bits and Pieces(1979-1980)

    5.Several mixes part 1 (1980-1981)
    6.Manhattan/Rumble records ( 1981-1983 )
    7A. CS ( 1980-1984 ) first part
    7b. CS (1980-1984) second part

I can assure you that many of them were played in many clubs even in other countries.

For instance many were hits down here in Miami's clubs, The "Survive" mix that uses T Connection's "At Midnite" break down was a floor magnet in Miami, so were some of the "Hollywood" series, and the original "Bit and Pieces" was very popular also.

there was a Sunday TV show in the late 70's originating from Cancun Mexico's Discos called "Disco Fever" or similar that aired in the Spanish Network, they played selected boots some listed at Patric's site to pack houses!!!! I always wondered how they got this mixes so soon

Some of this mixes fetch high prices on Ebay when ever any of them shows up:???:

    Re: bootlegmixers

    Hi all,

    this is my first post.
I have a question about the bootleg mixes of Hollywood 1 and 2 :

Are these first mixes, pressed in low quantity in 78-79 collector's items?
Any demand these 'old school mixes'? I have the 2 mentioned and someone actually suggested me to sell them as they might be worth a few bucks??

I'm sure what to do, they are pretty rare I suppose but are special to me.

    Any suggestions are welcome,

    later disco lovers,
    Pat C.

    Re: bootlegmixers

    Hi Pat,

There were not many pressed for a few reasons.

Most of these mixes are from splicing tape together with razor blades and were made by local DJ's. They had a small number pressed and given out through DJ record pools. Some were also just made for radio. I think many are lost.

And Disconet megamixes took off very well, so others wanted to put there own together.

As soon as DJ's started playing different clubs in different markets, the more well known of these mixes followed.

It was one of the Bits and Pieces mix that evolved into Stars On 45.

If you have originals, that's great. I wish I had more of them.

But there are a lot of copies and bootleg copies are still being made today. And some of these are sold in some DJ stores.

As for value, yes they have good value, but ebay has killed record value (although I have noticed a little upturn). Check them and also GEMM.

But the true value depends on you. If it were me, I would keep them.

And I WILL keep them. I bought them in 78 and 79 in an Antwerp US Import shop and they are part of my collection. I was just wondering if the originals are as rare as I think they are.

    Many thanks for the reply,
    Pat
