I've received a pre-release copy of Gloria Gaynor's upcoming new album "I Wish You Love" on Logic/BMG Records. It's due out on Sept 10, 2002 and is her first full album release in 15 years.

Although I was skeptical at first I have to say that I'm very impressed. She has managed to retain and put forth her soulful voice and combine today's dance elements to great effect. What "Believe" did for Cher a few years back, "I Wish You Love" will do for Ms. Gaynor.

I can't give a tracklisting yet as it is subject to change, but some of the standout songs are "Gotta be Forever," "Gone Too Long,""All the Man" and "Stronger." Ironically her cover of Tata Vega's "Just Keep Thinking About You" is the weakest song and doesn't do anything for me.

It's amazing, this lady is in her 50s and she can still run circles around today's so called divas. Be on the lookout for this one. As I listen to it more over the next few days I'll give further impressions.

    Interview with Gloria Gaynor

I hope to conduct an interview with Ms. Gaynor very soon and will keep everyone posted when it will appear here. If there are any questions you would like me to pose to her please let me know and I will do my best to include them.

    Marcio,

That song is the last track on Gloria's new CD. It's titled "I Will Survive" (Live from Brazil - SPANGLISH Version 4:38)

There's also another live version from Brazil in English which clocks in at 6:43. Again this is a pre-release copy so we'll have to wait for the official tracklisting to confirm.

Wow!!! Thanx for the link Bernie!
I just saw the video (in both, radio and dance versions) and she is looking pretty hot at her 50's!!
She is getting my vote for the sexiest disco artist now!!

Oh, about the song......hmmmmm....the good artists (like her) are still out there, but ........where, for God sake, are the "good" producers? Are they gone?? :???:
It's always the same beat forever and ever, on and on.......
They could be done it with any other singer, but no!!! They have Gloria Gaynor and did the same tasteless "dance production" of a "Shakira". Pretty weak production, in my opinion.

Anyway, it's good to see her in action. I really hope the rest of her album have a better production. I really hope!!

    Peace.

I picked up a used copy of the CD single of Gloria Gaynor's cover of "Just Keep Thinking About You Baby". Having loved Tata Vega's version, I did not recognize what was on this CD. In fact, I even figured at one point that it was not even the same song--just another song with the same title. I went so far as to check the song-writing credit on the Gaynor with those on the Vega!!!!!! Unbelievable how they can screw up music today!!!!!!!

I would have to agree on most of what you said above, but it seems that they are out to get some of the younger audience as what they did with Cher. Playing the CD through is actually quite enjoyable and catchy and should appeal to young and old alike.

I was really expecting to hate it which is why I posted it here. Overall, they've done a good balancing act.

Have to agree with you on this one song. Perhaps I just have Tata's rendition in my head forever, but this cover didn't do anything for me either. Tried all the remixes on the promo and it left me blank. it's as if they buried her vocals!

The rest of her new album though does work quite well. Again, we have to keep it in context with today's sound and realize that the "old" Gloria is in the past and she's trying to appeal to the younger segment. Kind of like what happened to many soul and R & B singers in the 70s who went on to Disco while their older fan base was upset that they were doing what was "in." Pretty sure they said the same thing about Edwinn Starr, Ben E. King....

I did get your point, Bernie. And I think you're right.

What I sorry is the current production model, they think:

    - Hey, let's add some "thump-thumps" and voice effects to a couple of Gloria Gaynor's tracks and put them into the young market!! We are genius!!

But it could be more....more classy:

    - Hey, let's do a good (not necessarly great) production to new Gloria Gaynor's track and show to the young market what good music is!!! We are genius!!!

I know, I know.....this is just my dream.

Anyway, I'm talking about one single track that I heard, the other track can be better......if God help!!
