Can someone tell me more about Canadian producer/writer Tony Green? HThe first two albums he did for France Joli in 79 and 80 are two of my fave overall albums but a disco singer (ie not just a handful of good singles). I don't think France's later albums were as good despite a few good tracks (and I do have a soft spot for the Pete Belotte 80s album which is very Irene Cara). Then when Tony did another album for France in 96 (you can buy it from his website still), while the music sounds even more dated than their disco stuff now, it's still a solid product with some great singles. I almost think of them asCanada's Donna Summer/Giorgio Moroder.
So what other Disoc greats did he do? anything worth tracking down?

I remember seeing a 12" from Cindy Valentine "In the Midnight Hour" that was produced by Tony Green. In fact, that was the reason I purchased it initially.
I've always beena huge fan of Tony Green's productions for France Joli,Freddie James,Geraldine Hunt,U.N.,Cindy Valentine,Goldie Alexander,Norma Lewis...
and let's not forget the sidelong SECRET AGENT LOVE on Carolyne Bernier's "Out of the shadow" Lp on London [Always loved the almost Moroder sound on that one !]
Also loved the design on his late 70's label called TGO.
Joli's first 2 Lps were on the label as was the U.N. album.
But one of my favorite was always LUBA's 1st album on the label.
It was not disco but the kind of pop/rock that was very commercial yet danceable too.
The band went on to greater success but I love the fact that they were signed and produced by Tony, first.

Send me some of those K :P
Luba! I'd forgotten about them--I saw them at an outdoor festival when I was 5 or so--we have at least one vinyl kicking around somewhere...
I wrote to Tony a whi8le back when I ordered thru his site his late 90s comeback album with France Joli (the one with the club hits Touch and Breakaway on it)--he was pretty pleased that I knew his work and seemed nice--on paper.
I have known Tony for many years, so if you are a fan like I am, I would strongly recommend getting the 12" of "I Am A Fool", released on RCA Canada. As well, he worked on "Sunshine Love" by Metal Weeds, also released on RCA Canada.
A few footnotes on missing elements: Tony was involved in Kebekelektrik's Journey Into Love/Return To Love on Direction, and also produced Alta Dustin for Atlantic.
The cut to look for on Cindy Valentine's Mercury debut is "Try Your Luck", which is one of their finest hours as a unit, and one of Tony's best ever productions in my humble opinion.
Vince
You're right Vince - I love Sunshine Love.
Going on memory ; Tony also released a few songs in french - well french cover versions of his own songs on RCA.
I recently bought the blue vinyl 12in he did with Sharon - If you love me which is an english version of Edith Piaf's L'hymne a l'amour.

Paid a fortune for this EP :
I remember vaguely that Tony's name was also mentioned in the linernotes
of these 2 Canadian album-productions below from 1983 and 1982 :

I don't remember Tony Green being associated with the Massiah project...but Kathleen Dyson (Geraldine Hunt/Carol Jiani/Prince) was.
KRIS
Yes ; Kathleen was featured on the 1982 album The Kat is back (on the Manhattan/Formula label).
She played guitar, arranged 5 of the 6 tracks and sang back up.
No producers credit other than : Produced by Formula Records.
Junior Byron (Dance to the music) and Montreal producer/remixer Michel Bibeau are also featured.
KRIS
Yep, saw indeed those Kat-LP credits at discogs too.
At first glance i thought it was an album by herself, lol.
I remember seeing Kathleen on TV in Montreal playing with her group Tchukon.
They were all excellent musicians...though they never really hit it big.
KRIS
Wow... that's interesting indeed ! Thanks again. I know that MCA released a compilation-album
of contestants for the tv-talent show called "Star Search". Tchukon has indeed a track recorded
on that album. Great info again kdavid13 ! Funny how all those info-trivias can be connected, lol.
BTW, who's the male vocalist featured on the two France Joli songs "Come to me" and "The heart to break the heart" and on the U.N. album? Is it Tony Green himself?
Thanks in advance

The group did release a full album here in Canada. The jacket featured an African painting on the cover.Impossible to find any information though.
Kathleen was the featured guitarist on a local show and her group was invited several times.
On her current website - Kathleen doesn't even mention this album in her discography.
KRIS
Yeah, Some artists seem not always have their complete biography or discography represented on their sites.
Kat also performed with Sheila E's band sometime ago in my town.

Some great information about the Green projects! I've been trying to discover for over a year now who the male vocalist for UN was... anybody know?
2 LP-copies with credits don't mention any male vocalist
U.N. @ Discogs
Maybe it's Tony himself singing ?
It is definitely NOT Tony Green singing lead on the U.N. album.
The voice is way too soulful...the guy is an R&B singer, for sure.
I've always pictured the guy in the sauna, from the jacket, singing lead ; and it works for me...:icon_biggrin:![]()
