This week I had a few bargain finds, I got Marlena Shaw's "Who is This Bitch, Anyway" CD for $2.00 from a thrift shop in as new condition and Luther Vandross "Twelve Inch Mixes" CD for $2.00, Evelyn Thomas " Greatest Hits" CD for $3.00 and Boz Scaggs Anthology 2 CD for $2.00 from a leading chain store here in Australia. It's been rich pickings for small amounts recently.
I've picked up La Bionda, Philadelphia Classics (all the long versions), The Originals, King Errisson, Eddie Kendricks, Teena Marie, Cory Daye (25p!) and, rather interestingly, J.O.B. Orquestra (disco Hari Krishna anyone?!). Although I haven't got round to playing that one yet.
I don't think I paid more than £1 for any of them:grin:
You asked Discodevil, so here we go.
I have no 2nd hand shops around so internet is my only option when I feel like "filling the gaps".
My latest "bargains" all came from one seller and I payed an average of $3 incl shipping:

heh heh... finally the 'true spirit'!Originally Written by discodevil
Not one of those lazy eBuyers who'll spend too much money on some overrated 'gem' that's turns out to be not so 'collectible' after all. I get soooooooooo bored with eBay and Gemm and all that overpriced vinyl...
Ahum; my latest bargains; Patti Labelle -'the spirit's in it' on Philadelphia International, the promotional 7" pressed on red vinyl, new and never played! . I paid 10 Eurocents for that one...
Eli's second coming -'hopscotch'
Alec R Costandinos -'trocadero blue citron' with picture sleeve
Martha Reeves -'stand by me' , all new and 10 Eurocents each...
And only a few weeks ago on a flea market; this amazing collection of almost every Cerrone album ever released and in great condition; finding 'Love in C minor' for 1 Euro just makes my heart beats faster !! Now, that's what I call 'real collecting'. Go out in the wild and chase the game!! Better than auctions really... it's just too easy
all*that*glitters*
I havent actually bought anything good in a few weeks, but I did borrow some great CDs from a friend of mine. theres a total of 3 of them; the buddah records singles:
BIG 12 INCHES
VOL. 1, VOL. 2, & VOL. 3
I highly recomend these!
I dont have any Gladys Knight albums. But Im going to have to buy some. Because Im hooked now. Here she is singing "Love is always on your mind".
Its a catchy, unique sounding tune. the series has got plenty of Marth Wash, its got the excellent Native New Yorker song (which I have on lp anyway)
Its got the cherchez la femme song, and some cool song by a group called "New York Community choir" (I never heard of them before) and a bunch of other great stuff.
Today I purchased a CD The Best of 12" Gold 8 Dance Greats for $2.00.
Track list:
- It's A Love Thing - Whispers 5.06
- Jump To It - Aretha Franklin 6.33
- I Can Make You Feel Good - Shalamar 4.20
- Put Our Heads Together - O'Jays 7.01
- I've Had Enough - Earth Wind And Fire 4.34
- Love Come Down - Evelyn King 6.09
- Get Down Saturday Night - Oliver Cheatham 7.33
- Crazy - Manhattans 4.53
I got Frankie Valli's 'Heaven Above Me' LP for £2 last week.:icon_cool:
...ya gotta beat the street......
discorecordplayer: If you've only recently become a Gladys Knight fan, I'd like to direct you to a couple of songs that I think are among her best, but are her least well known. One in "Everybody Needs Love" from way back in her Motown days..a classic Motown production with great lyrics. Another is called "Send it to Me" which is from one of the 2 "Miami Vice" soundtracks. It's in the vein of her Number 1 R and B hit "Love Overboard" and it's well worth searching the bargain bins for. I also love a ballad she did with BabyFace called "I Don't Want to Know."
My last one was the Chance LP by Candi Staton (1979), which I paid something less of US$ 3, in an used bookstore. I made some comment in the vault.
Also many other vinyls for 30 cents (more my usual price) but nothing too incredible. I remember there was the Alicia Bridges' brown LP (the one with "I love the nightlife"), some 3Degrees produced by Giorgio Moroder, and the censored local edition of Love and Kisses, which I presume will be valuable sometime in the future :icon_twisted: It's the one with the girl's t-shirt ripped, but all the "ripping arms" are covered by black stickers in form of arrows reading "love & kisses" :icon_exclaim:
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
"Strawberry Letter 23" by Brothers Johnson. 12" Red Vinyl at an Antique shop mall for 10 dollars. Dont know if it's a bargain but I was happy to find it.........
DANCE!!-To the BOOGIE WONDERLAND........
While waiting for the light to change ; I spotted a used record store I've never been into.
At the back there were many disco Lps & 12in in the 3 for $1 bin :

LOLEATTA HOLLOWAY Love sensation [LP]
GET UP AND BOOGIE [The Casablanca Sampler] 1977
BLONDIE Rapture / Live it up [Disco mix]

I recently bought these at a used record store. They're all 12" singles. Most with multiple remixes. Mostly 80's & 90's stuff. And they were all 50 cents each, in great condition:
Bandolero - Hot 'Paris Latino' (1983)
Diebold & Co. - Your Eyes (1987)
Gaye Bykers On Acid - All Hung Up (1987)
Gina G - Gimme Some Love (1997)
J. - Without My One And Only (2003)
Nick Kamen - Nobody Else (1987)
Jennifer Lopez - Play (2001)
Latin Lover - Dr. Love (1980's)
Ricky Martin - I Don't Care (2005)
Kristine W - Feel What You Want (1994)
Vanessa Williams - The Way That You Love Me (1995)
They had 100's more at this price. So I'm going to pick through some more and see what I can find.
"Because there's music in the air."
I found the Baby It's me cd at a flea market for 5 dollars
I almost BLACKED OUT~!!
I have like 20 copies on LP but the cheapest I have seen the CD is a used copy on Amazon for about 90 dollars and thats about the only copy period.
So I'm listining to Top Of The World as we speak..wink..
