Love the song, love Sharon (RIP) but what a bizarre, bizarre video. It's as if she's escaped from an asylum (no disrespect Sharon) and crashed somebodys wedding!
Filmed in 1988?

"Love Insurance" by Front Page is located on the compilation "Super Rare Disco (Volume 2)". You will hear the short version, but I'm not certain where to find the 12-inch long version. Still, it's a very catchy song!
Yes. The video is sort of odd. But it is still a must see for all of her fans. I think there were similar videos filmed for some of her other 12" records.
Yes in reality it is good to see.
Makes me sad that she's gone though and amazingly 14 years ago!
Spell,
Thanks for posting this one. I'm a huge fan of "Love Insurance" and have been annoying everyone about it for yearsThis is one of my faves.
The video was done by Glenn Rivera who was an old friend of Sharon's and a DJ out of CA. Glenn had once told me the story about the making of this video, but I can't find the e-mail :(
Glenn's site is worth a visit as he has some special "Restructured" mixes online at http://www.shadesofseventies.com

Fortunitely, when I realized the best days of my DJ career were behind me, I took the initiative to record on library cassettes all, or most of the vinyl I had collected. These cassettes proved to become priceless at this day and age, when the coveted long versions and mixes are all too difficult to find elsewhere. disc jockey from the mid 70s to late 80s, and got free booze for it.
Thanks ....
One of my top 10 all time disco favorites
That one latino guy in the wedding group keeps turning his head to look at Sharon. Do you think he was a fan or jut paranoid about Sharon being a only few feet away from them?
you can find the 12" version on the 12"! ;)Originally Written by discotom73

found it locally in mint for $4!
Back in 1978, I could remember hearing this song on a dance floor at a big club here called WCPC – I remember the strings flowing in on the mix and then this vocal started – it was the most incredible experience. It did not stop there. The break was a symphony of percussion as well. Then the synthesizers kicked in reverberating into anther lush string arrangement and then peak!
I am sure everyone felt pretty much the same way at first hearing, “Love Insurance” by Front Page.
Back in 1987, I was privileged to meet former member of the Harlettes and now solo artist, Sharon Redd – with a series of events that lead to our meeting, it had to have been plans in the plan of the universe. She was one of the most incredible human beings I have met. Very warm and very sincere. During the first weekend, I told her that I was a filmmaker as a teenager and would love to play around for fun with her songs. She thought this would be fun. We took off one morning and spent the entire day looking for locations and shooting some footage with my Betamax camera and a boom box. The videos were shot in several locations around San Diego- They were created quickly and meant for fun and expression.
“We’re Friends Again” at Balboa Park here in San Diego – Sharon insisted it be in a children’s park since the song reflected a kind of innocence. In setting up for the videos, I learned of Sharon’s personable and fun attitude. She always left me in control but took off on her own when it came to performance. I had seen her in Bette Midler’s stage shows on video and always believed this was the Sharon I met – she was crazy, silly and always ready to make a prop out of anything. She was great fun and such a good sport.
“Beat The Street” was shot in a now redeveloped part of Downtown, San Diego – but at the time it was quite run-down – which is what we wanted for the visual. The crowds waiting for the trolley were asking repeatedly who she was and what the shoot was for – they asked if it were for MTV, which was hilarious! Sharon played around allot in this video – she is such a good at ad-lib. Most of the scenes were shot because she wondered into a business and we ended up asking for permission to shoot there. There is plenty of really funny out takes and footage that I did not use for the final cut. Sharon always referred to “Beat The Street” as her San Diego song after this, because of the fun we had with the shoot. She explained to me the depth of the song to her – how it is so important to live your life without destructive addictions and how important it is to take care of the temple (our bodies) – this is long before I even knew what the heck she was talking about. Now I look back and find she was one of my original “life instructors” to have brought such valuable information to my mind.
“Love Insurance” was shot at Presidio Park in an area with a garden terrace with columns and vines – used for shoots with wedding parties. And on this day, a wedding party unexpectedly arrived – they arrived long after we began shooting and asked us if we could stand away. We cooperated with them but soon as we required more area and it had been long over an amount of time where we felt we had been removed form where we were first. So, Sharon took it in stride and moved back and forth in the background of their shoot. It was quite funny and so much of the cut footage was her weaving in-and-out in choruses trying to make herself unseen – of course, which did not work. Let’s just say they were not happy with us. We were with them – since the emphasis of “Love Insurance” was met with their prescience.
Sharon Redd will always be one of the most exciting and incredible talents of the disco/dance arena and probably beyond this. If you will note her beautiful song writing (ex. “In The Name Of Love” with her brother) and her energy and drive. My memory of Sharon was her talent as well as her deep understanding of life. The 2 together moved through allot of experiences from childhood and her music career – but the love of her life was performing – the fame was third below “life”. Her soul is still here with us – if you do not believe this, listen to “Love Insurance” and “In The Name Of Love” again.

SHADES OF SEVENTIES
GREAT VIDEO Mr. Rivera!
I wish I had been there so I could have danced with Sharon in the park right in front of the latinos. Sharon dancing with an 8 year old Puerto Rican kid would have given the entire wedding party a legitimate reason to keep glancing back in her direction.
