Hi, The video is the same. Lyrics were omitted. When she is in the boat and says "He ripped off my mu mu in Oh oh chorios" the rest of the lyrics were "he took me hard and fast, I prayed that it would last, for me." And the lines "That Negro from Oh oh chorios, hung like a mule oh what tool had he" was omitted. The version that was played in the Parade in New Orleans had these lines in tact.

The matron with the fan who lets Paul in to the office in the beginning is of course the real Star of the show and the actual vocalist: the inimitable Warhol factory Superstar PAT AST, now lamentably gone. She can be revving it up in Tom de Simone's ultimate W.I.P. (women in prison) masterpiece "Reform School Girls", available on dvd region 1.

I was recently planning a cruise, and one of the stops was Ocho Rios. Suddenly I had "O-O-Chorios" in my head. That's the only part of the song I remembered. I could not remember the name of the song, who did it, or when, but I remember the music video was hilarious!!
So, thanks to this thread (and Google) I have recovered a bit of my past. Paul Jabara, 1986. Oops! I thought it was maybe 5-10 years ago. Time files.
If anyone knows how to obtain an uncensored copy of this music video, let me know. I can't find it anywhere. The vynil is on EBay, but the video really made the song stand out. YouTube no longer has it, PaulJabara.com does not have it. It would be a shame if this video was lost !! It's a piece of our history!

But I question your mention of Pat Ast as the "real vocalist". The entire song was sung by Paul Jabara. Unless I misunderstood your meaning.
As for availability of the video...? Good luck finding one! Jabara's estate has managed to track down every posting of that video. And has had them removed, immediately.
We received the video, back when I was working at Uncle Charlie's / Miami, through Rock America, I believe. It was a promo video service for clubs that worked videos, as well as vinyl. It had the single version and the full 10-minute version. The censored 10-minute version was meant for MTV type airplay. Though I'm fairly certain it was "too gay" for MTV.
One other aspect to the uncensored version, was that, towards the end, there's a long-shot of Jabara's character (Lola?) and the Jamaican bodybuilder in the row-boat. The bodybuilder pulls Jabara up, by the hands and as he's coming up, the big blonde wig slips-off Jabara's head. With the camera holding the shot, that split-second long enough, for you to realize it's two Men in the boat. Then, immediately, there's a cut-away to another scene. And you can tell it was definitely not a mistake, or outtake.
God Bless Paul Jabara. Totally "out". Totally "queer". Paul made no apologies for who he was. And back in the early-mid 80's that was nowhere near as easy to do, as it has become over the last 20+ years. Many saw him as just a big queen. With the release of the scathingly queer "Ocho Rios", at the height of AIDS paranoia, I saw him as fearless! In the early 80's I had the good fortune to bump-into Paul out on Fire (Pleasure) Island. How I wish I'd had the opportunity to sit and talk with him. But the encounter was simply in-passing. And I couldn't make any more of it.
In their 1977 promotion concept for the "Shut Out" LP, Casablanca referred to Paul as "The Next Great American Hero".
To me, personally, they were soooo right!

Paul Jabara should've been a big mainstream star as he was so talented & had such charisma. Despite his achievements he's largely forgotten (outside of the 'disco community'). Maybe one day there'll be a 'Paul Jabara award' similar to the 'Ivor Norvello award'.

Talk about conicidence...Yesterday I was sorting a huge amount of CD-Rs and found this vinyl rip and played the whole album twice in a row.
So camp,and so much fun.And once you've seen the video - the images are forever in your brain.:icon_biggrin:
