Sorry if this is old hat, but I thought it might be interesting to find out which remixes or remakes were a godsend (and possibly which ones weren't) according to the honourable brethren here assembled. Completely from memory, I'll kick off with:-
JINGO - CANDIDO the remix of about 1982
RIGHT IN THE SOCKET - SHALAMAR the 1980 remix
YOU'RE THE ONE FOR ME - D TRAIN 1985 Paul Hardcastle remix
LET'S START II DANCE AGAIN - HAMILTON BOHANNON & Dr. PERI JOHNSON

Regarding to D Train, you sure you are not talking about "Music" D-Train (Paul Hardcastle mix) unless there is a "You're the one for me" version that I was not aware ?

    Amoung my remix blasts:

ABC - The Look of Love (USA remix)
Black Legend vs Barry White - My first my last my everything
Strikers - Body music (Inch remix)
The Cars - Hello again (Arthur Baker mix)
Venus - Night Rider (Jim Burgess mix)

I liked especially the Candido remix and the Bohannon remix...

A few suggestions of my own:
Instant Funk - Got My Mind Up (I remember the reaction when that came out - stunning!)
Sharon Redd - Can You Handle It
Sharon Redd - Beat The Street
    Willie Bobo - Always There

If it moves - funk it!!

So many good remixes (among many useless).
Some I remember and that worked:

    JIMMY BO HORNE: Spank
    TOD FOSTER: Dancin'
D TRAIN: Trying to get over (wonderful dub)
ALICIA MYERS: I want to thank you (I discovered the remix recently and got confirmations abou it thanks to this board)
SHARON REDD: Can you handle it
GLADYS KNIGHT: It's a better than good time
    LOLEATTA HOLLOWAY: Hit & RUN
FIRST CHOIOCE: Let no man put asunder
JACKIE MOORE: How's your lovelife baby (the instrumental remix is divine)
CLAUDJA BARRY: You make me feel the fire
    CLOUD ONE: Atmosphere strutt
    DD SOUND: Cafè
    GARY'S GANG: Let's lovedance tonight
INSTANT FUNK: I got my mind made up
    QUEEN SAMANTHA: Take a chance

I'm pretty sure there was a remix of 'You're The One for Me' though at my slightly advanced age I could be having an "almost senior moment". Can anyone else help?

As far as the You're the One for Me - D-Train remixed by Paul HardCastle.... I thought it was a remix made for that time; Out of the Rain Forest Mode. In other words, they should've left that remix alone. The reprise version by Francois K of You're the One for Me was short and sweet.

Keep the faith and everything will come your way as time marches on!

You're The Best - Keni Burke from '81; much better than the original LP version.

The extended remix of "Heaven Must Have Sent You" by Bonnie Pointer - sorry, I don't know who did the remix... but totally kickin' disco remix of the shorter album track.

I have to agree the U.S. remix of ABC's "The Look of Love" sucked.

Did they release a different 12" mix in the U.K.?

BUT that's my point. For me personally,as a working DJ at the time the Paul Hardcastle Remix was absolutely the dog's bollocks. It made what had been a slghtly tame and dare I say it slightly disjointed piece of Disco funk into a seriously hard groove. It caused much more of a positive reaction than the original ever did for me. I liked the original, but didn't love it like this remix. Don't forget, I worked as a pro DJ from '72 - '87. Do you think I was hankering after those 15 year old belters by the time I finished DJing? Tastes moved on several times in my stint. If you're playing to 20 year olds you'd generally have to keep up with their tastes, not your own.
