Look for Jussi's post about Miss Millie in my "Those Billboard Charts" thread in the "What Are We Listening To" section.

An amusing tale in there about Miss Millie meeting Jussi....

P.S. It's at the top of page 5 and continues for a couple posts.

I used to use "This Is Where I Came In" as the last song in a slow set. You had to be careful because the talking-intro had a short section of spousal abuse, but it was always softened with the little boy saying, "Leave me alone, I don't like girls." The song segues on the lp into her cover of "This Is It", which is the real reason this was on the table. She begins this with a rap --- "This album is for men only." Always worked, and the entire rap is awesome with a strong rhythm track underlying it flawlessly into the song.

My partner liked for me to play Millie's and Isaac Hayes' "Feels Like The First Time", which was fine by me.

I also won a bet one night at The Anvil when Bobby "DJ" challenged me to play "Phuck U Symphony". He said I'd never make it work. I had them singing "phuck u" in operatic style AND conducting the orchestra. THEY LOVED IT!

Millie could be fun and The Anvil was already used to her as one of the guys used her music as part of his show.

Drum roll please: 'White-guy-in-drag' on stage points to me as Millie relates how she is "tired of the nigger, anyway", or something to that effect with LOTS of attitude. Except for Millie on the turntable, the club was like a Sprint commercial. That pin drop would have been explosive!

When the song ended and my friend left the stage on his way to the booth, I actually thought people had stopped breathing. He had, smartly, gotten the response he was looking for, both from me and the crowd. When they saw us hug in the booth there was wild cheering. They didn't know he was whispering, "I'm sorry I didn't warn you, but I needed 'that look' on your face. Still love me, don't you?" Cool ****... or too many drugs... but it worked!
