 Sylvester was Disco Diva or not was ?:-o
Dante's Inferno had a swipe at it, not that I consider them diva-ish in any way
Take That did it. Are they divas? LOL!!! After the bout of scabbling that Robbie and Gary did, they acted like a couple!
Abigail had a version of it.

Take That ---- ?? ...
don't know these acts .... and now three other versions of COULD IT BE MAGIC to watch for ....:D
But as far as another disco diva interpretation .....
Yes Shenkin,
I'm thinking of big time diva (I think he'd agreeably concur ):
Sylvester
I only know of this one take ( ?) on this song by Sylvester : it's on his LIVE AT THE SF OPREA HOUSE LP .... and it's just a quick few lines used as an intro, a bridge , into something else .
Still I find it telling that he chose to include it at all .... suggesting he thought highly of COULD IT BE MAGIC ..... either as a tune unto itself or as so exquisitely interpreted by fellow disco diva : Donna Summer.

remicks, you don't know Take That! Even after they had a US top 10 hit with the hideous 'Back for good'. It was in the AC chart for weeks on end!
Abigail did covers all Hinrg stylee. Not very good either I don't think. She also covered 'Smells like teen spirit':o . LOL, awful! Klone records have a lot to answer for!
the Dante's Inferno version (INFINITY RECORDS 1979) is quite nice, the male vocalist sounds pretty close to Barry Manilow, my favorite is still Donna's version.Originally Written by remicks
No  .... I lost track of some music later in the eighties ....don't know what Five Star sound like either ....never heard of them as well until some posts here made mention of them ....Originally Written by Davicillo
And now ...... who are the Alissi Bros ?????? :???:

Could it be Donna Summer???

For those who don't know "Dante's Inferno" (by Ron, not Alighieri), their S/T album on Infinity (INF9014) is a great album worth getting. I used to love it for "Open up your heart", a disco track that starts out sounding quite slow & dorky, but then in the 2nd part a disco beat kicks in, and the track keeps building up 'til the final climaxx. The female vocals are beautiful.
I just listened to "Could it be magic" again, and it's actually pretty good; different enough from Donna's version to keep it from sounding like a pale copy.
All tracks are good, none was ever really famous, although "Fire Island" might have had some success as it was released as a 12" single.
Barry Manilow and Ron Dante produced each other on several other projects.
There's also a cover by Anthony White, from '76, and Elaine Jones, in the late '90s, although neither apply as divas...
In 2005, Morgana King released her version-not disco.
I couldn't find much info on the Abigail, but I did find an album listing with the song on it.

I have Abigail's (only?) CD "Feel Good," on ZYX Music and produced by Ian Anthony Stephens. I can't find a date on it anywhere, but I'd guess it's from the early '90s...? I haven't listened to it in years, but it's not bad... in that heavily synthesized '90s high-energy kinda way. :-? And she covers not only "Could It be Magic," but also "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (which is a lot of fun and one song I always enjoyed springing on the few rock fans I know!), "Constant Craving" (really good), "Losing My Religion" and "Twist in My Sobriety"!!! :-o
"Could It be Magic" happens to be one of my all-time favorite songs, btw, so I can listen to almost any version of it. (I even like the version by Take That, although some of the remixes make it nearly unbearable.)
\"...a once in a lifetime feeling that returns every week...\"
I'm going to hear the magic performed tonight by the one and only queen of disco at a private show at the Mohegan Sun Arena. If I can't win at the slots, at least they let me see some good shows for free.
Limmie and The Family Cookin' - lovely version.
Tina Charles. Yeah, that Tina Charles. An even lovelier version.
Did Laura Branigan do a version.
please ignore my post. as usual i have the completely wrong song in my head!

I did a quick search and found several other versions...
Leona Lewis - did a version apparently on her "The Labyrinth Tour-Live from the O2" cd
The Puppini Sisters - did a version on their "The Rise & Fall of Ruby Woo" cd (never heard of them)
Richard Clayderman - sort of an MOR pianist did a version
Scott Gertner - on his 2008 cd "Only Human" (no idea who this is)
Joel Collier - on his 2008 cd "It's Love" (no idea who this is either)

Strangely enough, this song became a classic in French! In 1975 Alain Chamfort released his version, before Donna Summer. He just extends the Chopin's prelude theme more or less like Manilow.*He plays the piano on it.*In the 90's the boy band Alliage released an updated version.

Alliage :
"Could It Be Magic" was of course also released by Manilow himself on his 1975 album. A great ballad it is.
And the very original version: Frédéric Chopin's (Prélude en do mineur Opus 28 n°20).
