Cameo-Although not my favorite, it was their signature.
This is spooky but I had almost the exact same conversation with somebody the other day.
Maybe this has been discussed before but I can't find a post on it. We should all be familiar with:
Ohio Players - Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner
Cameo's - Larry Blackmon
ConFunkShun's - Michael Cooper
Bar-Kay's - Larry Dodson
Commodores - Lionel Richie
Oran "Juice" Jones tried to re-ignite this in the 80's but.......

I have to agree, think "Owwww!" and Larry Blackmon's face pops into my head.Originally Written by eddie
Though as runner up I'd give it to Lionel Ritchie....:-D

hey if you want to add one new school group-- lo key did it as well.
b lovin her some basslines
Yes, "I got a thang 4 ya" was one of my favorite songs and in the album's notes they say there they are a combination of Isleys, Ohio Players, and Con Funk Shun and you can definitely hear the old school. Truly underrated group from an under-appreciated era.
Hey Dudes ,, How about an honorary mention to the lead singer of Kleeer ,, maybe not the first or the best ...But !! Go take a listen to "Taste the Music " ....hehehee ....
Oh yeah! Just listen to Close To You on their Winners LP. What about Slave?
agreed!;)Originally Written by qdearl

I thought Steve Arrington (from Slave) was more of a Yow Wow wow. But that's being technical.:icon_mrgreen:
lionel ritchie did the slow jam version of owww:razz:
I think someone mentioned lo key--so which old school oww does his sound like?
who's oww do you all think was the most distinctive?

Lo-key's version sounded like Ohio playeres vocals crossed with a Con funk shun groove. I really dug this group BITD!! I'm into that retro-nuevo/New Jack stuff moreso than disco.
eddie I agree--low key does do a little combo with theirs. I am truly in love with their funk modernized for the ninties as well.:D yeah they along with some others who put out some funk for the still funk lovers were underrated and that era was too.Originally Written by eddie
