Great newz Jussi. I always liked James and I will surely buy this one. But can you give the titles from the real Disco records he has released.
thx
We are what we eat but are we what we watch? The "James Last: The Best of the 70's" dvds - 2 volumes of them! - contain performances of titles such as YMCA, Yes Sir I Can Boogie and Sunny, and in that horrific world everything sounds like "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing ( in perfect harmony)". There's a large studio, lack of ornamentation, a chorus of smiling "Up With People"-style backup singers, a large orchestra, and James himself, looking almost as German as Heino. Faded colours off-white, beige and orange cover and imbue all. These songs and visions open new paths in the understanding of total naffness, exercising a hypnotizing effect that draws you in and holds you there.
Great newz Jussi. I always liked James and I will surely buy this one. But can you give the titles from the real Disco records he has released.

Okay, but who is James Last?

Bernie, this German Orkestmeister is a European legend! The man and his orchestra is famous for decades! The king of the swinging sounds! The master of Camp! The lord of lounge! The European Disco orchestra!Originally Written by Bernie

There's that "Seduction" instrumental from the "American Gigolo" film but other than that no such things exist as far as I know. "Voodoo Party" does contain exciting very well made non-cheesy protodisco tracks like "Se A Cabo", though, but those are borderline cases, more like cool loungey boogie things.Originally Written by Videoskooter

Thx, I knew I read something about him recently here! The truth is that there are two sorts of James Last outputs. The ones that you and Jussik mention (lounge) and the popular ones (like "Biscaya" and his medleys and covers of famous hits and evergreens). I always liked the guy, you know. I grew up with him when he was played at family reunionsOriginally Written by all*that*glitters*

Doooooei!
God, family reunions and James Last! What a perfect combination!!Originally Written by Videoskooter
To be honest, Videoskooter, I always loved JL for his 'tacky' covers not for the music. There's quite a collection of these cheesecake bad taste covers of the 60's and 70's that are so bad they're actually great.
But recently I started digging deeper into the music with 'Voodoo Party', my first real encounter with the music by JL. I must say that I was happily surprised, really. What a great album@! Plenty of breaks to sample here and some tracks can be played into serious Disco sets....
If America brought us John Davis and his Monster Orchestra or Vince Montana's Christmas Jollies then German cheesemeister James Last at least deserves a break, don't you think?
houdoe!!

Jussi,
Don't know if you ever sent me any of his stuff, but I may need to check this out to see what all the fuss is about :-)
