THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY...Osko's
here's an easy one! Which movies contain scenes shot at disco's or clubs?
I do NOT mean dance scenes in the good old musical but actual clubs where actors act their scenes. And no videoclips either...Mmmh...lemme think.
'Saturday Night Fever' of course is the most obvious example...

that's not "Looking for Mr Goodbar" is it? This one has a good scene of early disco life, never found and gave up looking for the soundtrack :-?Originally Written by Boodikka
How about Harrison Ford's "Frantic" when he's looking for the "white lady" :D
in this scene they play in the background an 87 hit song written by Ish of Foxy, "Something tells me this will be the night" by Tiger Moon.
In the French Connection you get to see the Three Degrees performing.
In recent years "Basic instint " had a very sensual scene in the club while the trance number "Blue" by Latour plays
there is also great energy in the club scene on "Blade" I forgot the name of the tune, but playing this part loud is lots of fun :D well, until blood starts to rain and vampires start to eat the innocent dude. :o:D

The 1971 movie "Klute" features a disco scene at The Sanctuary with Francis Grasso appearing in a cameo role as the DJ.It starred Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland

" For the record, it was later disclosed that Roseann and Wilson met in the All-State Café on West 72nd Street between Broadway and West End Avenue and then proceeded to her apartment across the street. When Wilson declined or became incapable of romantic endeavor, Roseann either kidded or taunted him. He became enraged and beat her to death."Originally Written by Mixmachine

Mixmachine: I have the soundtrack to "Looking for Mr. Goodbar". I'd be interested in knowing why you're looking for it, it's really nothing special. Good, not great.
I think I was looking for it in the early 90's, but on CD, as I hardly had any Disco on CD to play in my car at the time, and no cd burners either:icon_sad:Originally Written by ol'skinflint
This movie has not been released on DVD yet either:-o
New York New York was also used in a scene in Slava Tsukerman's sci-fi punk cult fave "Liquid Sky", realesed in 1982 but shot earlier. The music heard during the scenes? Beautiful Bend!
Several Italian Sat.N.F. ripoffs were shot in actual clubs in and around Milan, like Charlie Brown.
A revamped, updated 1979 version of the 1977 mondo shockumentary This is America 2/Jabberwalk contained footage of Xenon of N.Y., apparently not actually shot for the film, probably just stolen from some source. You get to see seminude people jiggling about and bathing in an aquarium filled with red jelly, all to Fever's "Beat of the Night". The dreadful "Nocturna" (1979)featured several long sequences shot at Starship Discovery in a normal legit way.
"American Gigolo" contained a scene shot at The Probe of Los Angeles.

Jussik,
I was waiting for 'American Gigolo', one of my fav movies with clubscenes.
As for 'Liquid Sky', some confusion here...Beautiful Bend is not on the soundtrack of this movie. Maybe it's heard in some scenes in the movie but not included on the OST.
I've never seen the movie but do have the soundtrack. The original music and adaptations are by Slava Tsukerman, Brenda I. Hutchinson and Clive Smith. It's one of those weird experimental electronic 80's records. No Disco insight. The look of the OST is very early 80's New Wave, not Disco.
The year of release of the OST indicates 1984. This doesn't correspond with 1982??

Beautiful Bend was indeed heard in the film itself, you get to see the main character wandering aimlessly around the club and staring vacantly ahead like they do, those punks. The year I was refering to is the year of the realese of the film. The title has been available on region 1 dvd for some time now - nothing really special but kinda endearing in that artsy-fartsy early 80's way.
Hi Original! "Trackdown: Finding The Goodbar Killer" is a 1983 CBS telefilm...a fictional sequel. The confusion here is my fault as I gave an incorrect title, and the production date makes it "post-disco".
Unfortunately, I don't know the club locations used in LOOKING FOR MR. GOODBAR.

Jussi, don't you DARE trash NOCTURNA, which is a legendary.....soundtrack around here.
The AMERICAN GIGOLO sequence at The Probe would be the sequence where they play "Love And Passion".

Wasn't the movie "Cruising" partially filmed in a NY danceclub?
I also mentioned in another thread that in the movie "Maniac" there is a scene outside a disco that I think was called Blossoms if I remember correctly. Don't know if that was a real place or just Hollywood trickery. The scene is right before Tom Savini get his head blown off.

The OST of 'Cruising' does not contain any real Disco music, although the movie was partially shot in the gay leatherboy's bar circuit. There is one logo of a bar that is recognisable; The Badlands, a hardcore leatherbar in NYC if I remember well.Originally Written by nrgbeat
The music is mainly by Willy DeVille and punk/hardrock that is underlining the 'rough trade' character of the leatherscene in those days. The OST was released by Lorimar in 1980.
I remember seeing this movie and was quite shocked by the homophobic character of the whole thing; a serial killer out for gay victims killing them while having sex (sic). What 'Cruising' definitely portrays very well is the big difference between the friendly extravagant gay clubscene and the sometimes nasty, rough trade environment of the leatherscene of the Disco years. I do not think that this movie does any right to the leatherscene, an already scandalised sub-group of a minority. 'Cruising' created a lot of controversy amongst gay groups worldwide when it was released and regarding the content it's not so difficult to see why.
However, the music on the soundtrack is quite good actually....

The German film Christiana F (1981) contains quite a few scenes shot in a real discotheque, but the name of it was changed for production purposes.
Hmmm.... all*that*glitters .... Why do you say that the movie Cruising does not contain any real disco music ? ..
Yep ,, I remember watching it and one particular song I chased and chased with tapedeck in hand to get .... Lump - Mutiny ... So does anyone have a full playlist to this soundtrack ? ..cheers .. Afro

here's the full tracklisting of the OST of 'Cruising'. The music is mainly punk/hardrock, not disco. Some of the tracks like 'mutiny' is danceable and was actually a clubhit at the time but soundwise the tune differs from the format known as disco. Let's call it P funk or punkfunk..but that's another story...:icon_idea:
Willy DeVille -heat of the moment
The Cripples -loneliness
John Hiatt -spy boy
Madelynn Von Ritz -when I close my eyes I see blood
Lump -mutiny
Rough Trade -shakedown
Willy DeVille -pullin my string
Germs (G.I) -lions share
The Cripples -hypnotize
Willy DeVille -it's so easy
all*that*glitters*
Thanks G ,, But i have to disagree with you ,, punl funk - P-Funk ,,, Hey its all really good disco !! ,, cheers ,, Afro

Another movie shot at Xenon (NY) was "Nighthawks" with Sylvester Stallone, Billy Dee Williams and Rutger Hauer. A pretty long scene is shot in the club of the bad guy "Wolfgar" a terrorist played by Hauer dancing in Xenon and then being chased by Stallone & Williams...Here is a film trailer I just found which includes the club scene towards the end. A Euro version of "I'm a Man," is playing, but I don't think it is Macho...One of the owners of Xenon, Howard Stein and his wife have a cameo in the movie also (not on clip)...Enjoy.
