    Identifying JB's Polydor Originals v Re-Issues

    Hi all ,
Not to long ago I came across a mint copy of James Brown's ... "Slaughters Big Rip-Off" at a flee market for $2 ... I snapped it up straight away ,, now some two years later I've had a real close look and cant seem to find anything other than 1973 on it ,,, Is there an easy way of identifying originals from re-issue ? ,, cheers ,, Afro

if it's an original the matrix nr on the vinyl in the run-out groove of the LP reads 2391 084 p 1973
same thing for the 45; then it reads 2066 372 . Of course these numbers may vary from country to country as most records by James Brown were released worldwide.

On both labels and cover you can find the year of first release indicated; 1973. If it's a reissue the label and cover always mentions the year of re-release unless it's a bootleg.
If you have an original then $2 is quite a good price if it's in mint condition.

And it's a cool album that fits into black exploitation soundtracks as well
