For me Maarten, no. It was too long in my opinion. It was very popular around '82 or so. Unless you are seriously into electrofunk, I would give it a pass.

If you are into Paradise Garage toons get the West End compilation CD Larry Levans Paradise Garage cat no;WES2001-2 (US copy). The Peech Boyus track is on there. Personally I prefer 'Life is something special'.

Since "Don't Make Me Wait" was added to the "The Disco Years: Volume 4" back in 1992, Rhino Records must have thought it was a critical song during the latter part of the disco era. I'm not too crazy about it, but I'm sure that some people will like this song since disco was changing so much at that time.

Hey everybody, thanks for the opinions and feedback. Davicillo, I actually have that Levan CD as well, so I know the song. I was just wondering if that "special version" which is included in the re-issue is worth having. Nowadays, re-issues gain quite a bit of value, as even they are limited in numbers.

But based on what everybody is saying I think I will pass on this one. If anyone is interested who is selling the re-issue pls contact me. It is not one of Bernie's approved shops and I don't want to just post the link here.

    Cheers!

It happens that I have this TMTT 7001 British 12" single because I'm a fan of this song and Bernard Fowler's soulful voice. On the A-side the "Original mix" is the 7:05 version originally issued on West End 12" WES 22140. It's not the version available on the cd "Larry Levan's Paradise Garage" : that particular mix is 8:20 and was never issued on 12" before. On the B-side of the TMTT 7001, the "Alternative mix" is the mix generally know as the "Dub mix" (5:40, on the B-side of the WES 22140 12" and rereleased on the cd "Classic electro mastercuts volume 1"). The third mix on the TMTT 7001 is a "Special version" unreleased until then clocking at 10:25; this mix includes 4:00 acappella at the end. The first 6:25 are as always with this song very good in a dubby way but the acappella part is a real treat. It's a re-edit with part of various mixes including the 3:00 original "Acappella" (only available at the time on the B-side of the promo 12" WESDJ 22140).

'Don't Make Me Wait' was a key track in the evolution of Electro-Funk. I wrote this in the piece 'Electro-Funk - What Did It All Mean', which can be found in the Disco History 101 section:
    http://www.discomusic.com/101-more/23_0_7_0_C/

Before Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force's seminal Electro classic, 'Planet Rock' (Tommy Boy) exploded on the scene in May 82, there had already been a handful of releases in the previous months that would help define this new genre. D Train's 'You're The One For Me' (Prelude), which was massive during late 81, would set the tone, paving the way for 'Time' by Stone (West End), 'Feels Good' by Electra (Emergency) and two significant Eric Matthew / Darryl Payne productions, Sinnamon's 'Thanks To You' (Becket) and, once again courtesy of Prelude, 'On A Journey (I Sing The Funk Electric)' by Electrik Funk (the term Electro-Funk originally deriving from this track, 'electric-funk' being amended to Electro-Funk following the arrival of Shock's 'Electrophonic Phunk' on the Californian Fantasy label in June). However, the most significant of all the early releases was 'Don't Make Me Wait' by the Peech Boys (West End), for this was no longer hinting at a new direction, it was unmistakably the real deal. An extreme chunk of vinyl moulded by Paradise Garage DJ Larry Levan, 'Don't Make Me Wait' would quickly become a cult-classic, and eventually even manage to scrape into the top 50 of the British Pop chart, purely on the back of underground support (as would a number of subsequent Electro-Funk releases).

The version I played was the Dub mix on US West End (hence its inclusion on 'Classic Electro Mastercuts', which I compiled in '94). The fierce claps at the beginning of the track instantly set it apart, and would be much copied on numerous records that followed. Another important legacy of this release was that one of the versions issued was the first acappella intended for DJ use - this appeared in the US on the 7" release, and, as Pierre Declercq points out, also on the UK 12".
