That "Down To Love Town" remix sounds interesting.. I remember first hearing that song on the Dimitri "Night At The Playboy Mansion" CD a few years back..
Have you heard the new Dimitri From Paris 3 CD package?? It is called IN THE HOUSE OF LOVE. Not all of it is DISCO. There is some HOUSE tracks but extremely close in "feel" to DISCO. Most HOUSE tracks have real bass, guitars, piano, keyboards and horn sections. Very good material.
Some of the disco tracks are:
FOUR FLIGHTS - 1978 - ALL I WANT IS YOU
LA VIE EN ROSE - 1977 - GRACE JONES
FEEL LIKE DANCING - 1980 - FRANCE JOLI
FAT LARRY'S BAND - 1979 - LOOKING FOR LOVE
D-TRAIN - 1982 - YOU'RE THE ONE FOR ME
ELAINE & ELLEN - 1979 - THE LOOK OF LOVE
SYLVIA - 1977 - LAY IT ON ME
I WANT YOU - 1976 - GATO BARBIERI
SYLVESTER - 1980 - I NEED YOU
RON HALL / MARC EVANS / VINCE MONTANA - THE WAY YOU LOVE ME
CHANGE - 1980 - THE GLOW OF LOVE
There is also a REMIX of DOWN TO LOVE TOWN by THE ORIGINALS which I believe is only found in this CD. The remix is great. Dimitri had access to the masters and did a great job in which he highlights the orchestra, the vocals and piano. It is not one of those horrible remixes done over the existing track. No. IT IS A REMIX IN THE TRADITIONAL WAY.
Some of the HOUSE tracks are:
VICTOR DAVIES - FIRE
DJ GENESIS - TONIGHT
CERRONE & JOCELYN BROWN - HOOKED ON YOU
VANESSA DAOU - SUNDAY AFTERNOONS
JAFROSAX - DRAWN TO YOU
INCOGNITO - GIVING IT UP
DOUBLE D - FOUND LOVE
BLACKBOX - FANTASY
INDIA, TITO PUENTE, COUNT BASIE ORCH. WITH VINCENT MONTANA - TO BE IN LOVE
plus other tracks.

Another CD I won't be buying.   I find his compilations are too patchy.
Are you referring to the Down To Love Town re-edit he did on the Playboy Mansion CD? He just looped the outro on that one, and used it as the intro, then edited in the verse-chorus part of the song.

Hi Disco Funk. Answering your question : No. Not on this new album. As I said, for this version of DOWN TO LOVE TOWN, Dimitri had access to the masters... so he build a new mix beginning with the strings playing by themselves... followed by piano... then some vocal... and then finally the disco beat and the song itself. IT IS A REMIX DONE IN THE TRADITIONAL WAY.Originally Written by Disco Funk
Thankfully this time the verse is not absent.
His PLAYBOY MANSION and AFTER THE PLAYBOY MANSION were great albums. This new one is just as good... if not better.
Check the HOUSE tracks... they could easily fall into the DISCO categorization.
The artwork is great too. A black cover with a drawing of some red flowers.
I found a website that is selling the compilation you are referring to, with sound samples:

The remix does sound really cool. Damn! I gotta shellout for this CD.
Hey, if you like faithful remixes of old tunes, check out the stuff done by Kenny Dope. He did some great remixes of BT Express' 'Express' and 'Peace Pipe' on 12", plus a great remix of 'Movin' by Brass Construction on the Randy Muller CD. He also did a stripped down remix of 'I Can't Stop' by John Davis Monster Orchestra on a 12" record. Too bad its mono.
Back to the Originals, there's an earlier version they did on the album before Down To Love Town. It's not as good, but its certainly different.

Well over a minute before any beat kicks in, 2.43 to get to the first verse and snippets from the break and chorus all chopped up into a less than flowing whole.....mmmm, great.:o    You guys should learn to be a little more discerning.:D :D :D
Although it's been said that it's been mixed in an 'old' style I don't think it has. The stark piano intro and (then) strings are obviously an attempt at a mix for younger ears and dancers. You just know that certain current day jocks love to interject their sets with sections of chill and many, many records have their chill sections too. That's exactly what this mix is doing.

Were those remixes on CD or 12" ?
Both. Well, the 12" of the BT Express tracks had the remix on one side, and a stripped down, drumcapella mix on the flipside. The CDs just featured the remix versions. I haven't seen the 'I Can't Stop' mixes on CD. The Brass Construction remix of 'Movin' was only on CD. I would have loved to hear a further stripped down mix.Originally Written by Paulo

Not enough to devalue the new mix.Originally Written by QUINNY
Once you are used to the 1976 original version, then this new mix is good because it gives you the chance to hear certain parts of the song more clearly. It doesn't surpass the original... it is just a remix.
I should point that, thankfully, nothing new or modern was added. It was done over the original master tapes.
I wish Dimitri or somebody else had done the same job with El Coco or Rinder & Lewis.
No I didn't know that. I'm old to go out clubbing to know this fact. Besides, I live in Brazil and here things don't work that way. I also don't buy much modern records... the music is not stirring enough.Originally Written by QUINNY
But I go out, only if it is a retro 70's/80's night, which is now very rare.
