    Disconet 12" error

I pulled out one of my disconets today and found out that there was an error on my 12". I have the Disconet Vol. 3 Program 11 which has Amy Bolton "Do Me A Favor" and Kat Mandu "The Break". However I noticed that although this is what the label says the Amy Bolton is correct but the Kat Mandu is wrong. Instead there is Asha "The Whip" which is found on the bonus record with the same mix. I was just wondering if this is the only copy like this and if so is it worth more or less because of the error ?

Well, since records are pressed from stampers and not made on a one-by-one basis, chances are good that there is more than one in existence. A better question would be "do all copies have this error?"

Less. Mispressings are relatively common, and are generally considered defective. The only exception would be if it contains material that wasn't intended for release, and has not been found anywhere else.

    Cool

Just gave my copy a spin, my copy's labeling is correct ,

so, "the break" is not included at all? not even on the bonus disk?

    Cool

Funny, My extra copy of Erotic Drum Band's "Plug me to death" LP on Prism has a similar defect. The title track appears on both sides of the disk.
    Side A;
    1-Love disco Style
    2-Plug me to death
    Side B;
    1-Plug me to death
    2-Action 78

Weird.. Feel funny about getting rid of this copy, as I never have come across this before.

nope strangely enough. Especially when thats like the most important track from this series. :-(. Instead I got 2 Asha "The Whip" mixes both the same. Never have come across this error with a disconet, but I imagine it wouldve been a big deal at the time specially when you were paying for the service.

maybe off the topic.. but was Kat Mandu "The break" different on the Disconet series than the original TK 12" release???

I have the same lp with the same mistake except Jerky Rhythm is in place of Action 78. I have a sticker on mine noting that Love Disco Style is a "NEW RE-EDIT BY SAVARESE". I also have the original, without the re-edit, and it is normal (both labels and tracks).

Does anybody know the reason for putting out the same lp with a different re-edit of Love Disco Style? Did they put it(the re-edit) out at the same time as the original and it caught on better?

I also have the 12inch remix from 1988 on NRG Records.

I think it has a different time. I have seen The Break with a 10min+ version and a 12min+ version. One of them is a Disconet release and I think the other is on Unidisc or Ramshorn. These are both longer than the original TK release.

There is also a Unidisc remix of The Break from 1985. I don't think it's good. It has 4 tracks, including the original, and the times range from 8:00 to 8:40.

There is another post, on the identify board, where someone was trying to identify a snippet of a song and it sounds like The Break without the bass.

I would love to hear(and own) these other versions.

I seem to recall that the original Unidisc 12" of The Break runs about 10 minutes, but I'll need to check on that later. There is also a remix (I can't remember who did it off-hand) from about 1980 or 81 with a rather unique characteristic: much of the track is backwards.

The Disconet remix is 10:30 long and broken down in three continuous parts, the overall sound quality is more muddy featuring a boosted bass with instrumentation (strings) pushed back in this mix in favor of the synths and brass section, the sax solo portion was removed as most of the "Ring my bell" Piuuu synths are almost gone too and what's left sounds very different , the intro is different from the original TK, as they added a couple of bars of new cowbell patterns, the middle part half way through completely removes everything but percussion over drum solo and bass , and I hear some extra new synths overlays too ( or were deep in the mix before) half the third part is played backwards with a cowbell, drum solo and whistle loop fading away towards the end..

as this song was very popular for years I remember it was refreshing to play this different Disconet version, just for the change, is not better just different..

Ps: this mix was credited to Steve Thompson, edited and Augmented by Jonathan Fearing..

    Re: Disconet 12" error

Going by your description, this is the same version that Unidisc later put out as a 12" (I seem to recall Fearing's name on the credits). There are two versions, one on each side, and I think one says "original version", but it's not. They're both remixes, and both have backwards portions, one more than the other.

Sound quality was okay, although I noticed this 12" had some major end-of-side treble cut. I've been meaning to clean it up...

Oh yes Graham , this version is the "Original version" (not TK) according to the label, don't think I ever heard the other version.

It sounds like The Break backwards.

    Thanks.

well, I can tell you is not this Disconet marked 'original version" so it may be the other version mentioned here that might be a remix of this version  (hence the original (remix) version label)the laughter was probably added later and is probably not part of the mix, but I don't know for sure.

    Thanks.
This is actually 2 breaks put together.. I hear France Joli "Come to me" break at the beginnning. then, the "The Break" by Katmandu backwords. The laughter sounds like this was used in some canned episode on tv??

I agree that the laughter was added for whatever reason.

And when I first heard it, I too thought it was 2 songs.

Thanks for your help. I will keep searching for the different versions.
