Question Brooklyn Express - Sixty Nine

Looking on the Internet (including this site) there seems to be a bit of confusion as to when this track was made - on this illustrious website it says 1979, but elsewhere the dates range up to 1982 (when it appears it did chart). I know that it was re-released during the 80's as remixes, but I'm interested in when it was originally released. My copy - the original US release on One Way - does not have a date on it!! Any help greatly appreciated!!

I have the same copy as you and when it was available as import here in Belgium, it was aroud late 82 if I remember well

    But surely not 1979

    Headlamp,

Strangely enough, I don't even recall how I arrived at it being 1979. Just looked at my copy and of course it doesn't have a year on it :-( I've corrected it to read 1982. Sorry for any confusion.

    Hi Bernie & thanks YsL,

No probs - I just recorded one of my radio shows - now called 'Disco,Soul & Funk of the 70's and 1982!! It sampled One Step Beyond by Madness, which was released I believe in 1978 so conceivably could have been recorded in 1979, but listening to it through the production techniques and I think the the synth used was mre modern then those available in the late 70's. It does sound like a much earlier track - all good though!!

Hi Headlamp: 'One Step Beyond' was released towards the end of '79 (was in the UK chart as the new decade began). 'Sixty-Nine', to the best of my memory, was either '81 or '82. I've got a list somewhere, which wioll have the date of when it came into the UK on import. I'll post info when I manage to lay my hands on it.

    Thumbs up

The Belgian Music Company (BMC) quickly bought the rights after the record became massive in clubs over here, but was only available on bootleg and import.

I know the label Carrere released it in France but also in 1982. Finally there's also a 1985 remix.

Still a record that's frequently on my decks!
