can anybody name at least one by James Last???

not many people will appreciate the output of German 'meister of cheese' James Last :o but he made a few Disco / Dance influenced albums in the 70's that are quite essential for your collection :D

can anybody name at least one?

To be honest - I have an album by him titled "A Well Kept Secret" that is very well kept 'cause I don't remember anything getting any club play.

at least you've named one by JL.
'well kept secret' is maybe his most curious attempt at making Disco music and certainly not essential. But....there is one album and maybe the only one that's really worthwile to find. Check out

    http://jameslastvoodooparty.blogspot.com/

On this album JL goes for the minimal arrangements of drums, Cuban percussion, electronics, some of the tracks are done in Latin style, without the 'cheese'!
The groove on some tunes really works; especially on 'se a cabo', 'sing a simple song' by Sylvester Stewart and 'gin-go-lo-ba'.
The last one was originally written by Olatunji and made most popular in the Disco days by Candido. Another song by Stewart on Voodoo Party is also worth checking out; 'everyday people'.

Voodoo Party was released in Europe in the mid 70's and is quite rare to find as it didn't do very well. The sound of this JL album is just to alternative for most fans. The production of the drums and bass is hard and designed for dancefloors. I compare this album with similar work by Paul Mauriat or John Davis, or some of Cerrone's productions.
Voodoo Party is one of those underrated gems that collectors nowadays are unearthing and pay handsome money for it.

Voodoo Party got quite popular some 8 years ago when the lounge/easy listening graze hit full force. The Karminsky bros programmed Se A Cabo a lot at Madame JoJo's of London. Interestingly, the tracks flow into one another via the device of wind sounds, predating the disco seque of Gloria Gaynor's 1st album with 3 years. I keep seeing the album here in Finland a lot, can it be that rare - ?

    Jussik,
Voodoo Party was sold here last March in Holland on an international record fair for 20 Eur, in mint condition. So if you see this LP in Finland a lot; stock up! It's quite rare to find this particular album for sure here in Holland, amongst the millions of other JL LP's this one rarely pops up. And it's a good one!

You are right about the seque of the tracks on Voodoo Party, it flows remarkably well. Do you know what year this was released?
I have a French copy and there's no year of publication stated
    greets

It's from 1972. - Did anybody mention yet "Seduction" by James Last, apparently his only Billboard dance chart hitette? The so-so track was also featured in the film "American Gigolo".

you are absolutely right about PLUS, another underrated album from 1986 that's really working well. I especially like the production of the sound and the fact that it lacks the 'cheese' normally associated with JL. Even the choice of material for singer Astrud Gilberto is quite good. Between the pulp James Last normally puts out the music with Brazilian rhythms or Latin American rhythms in general always stick out as his better work

I remember "The Seduction", a slow song by The James Last Band.

They used to play that song at the end of the programming day on a tv station in Montréal (CFTM 10) during the seventies.
    Let the music play...

James Last did a nice Batacuda track named Brasilia..

It was played here in Holland in clubs long before the succes of
The good men - Give it up or DJ Dero - Batacuda

James Last is considered old peoples music here since the 70's :-)

James Last made an EXCELLENT disco song called "Tenderly"

unfortunately, its not in my collection, but sometimes I catch it on my local elevator music station. Yes, I listen to "elevator music." sometimes some of those old songs are pretty cool in a way!

I agree with you that JL's Brasilia is another great track that works on dancefloors, mainly because it's a batucada-rhythm track

not just in Holland I guess. But doesn't this happen with ANY sort of music when new generations discover their own favourite music? Even my kids consider Disco being old hat...

Since this is a James Last thread, I will also post the sample to the song I am trying to ID. I'm very confident that this is a James Last track, but I only have this short, looped sample, hopefully someone can help, the link to the file is below.
