As promised before, I went on a 2nd hand scavenger hunt in the Shibuya district today. My problem is that slowly but surely there are fewer and fewer records that I really want to buy from ‘back then’ because I really have almost everything I want to have.

But I did find a few that may interest you, and then some more 90’s stuff that you will probably not like at all…, as follows:

LP’s
Fantasy – Fantasy. This is the album with “You’re to late” which I have as a 7”. Cute song, and I have always wanted to check if the “Too much too soon” track is the same as the one by TS Monk. I noticed that it was produced by Tony Valor (“Tony Valor Sounds Orchestra” album - 1978). I still consider this album (re-issued on CD here in Japan) one of the nicest surprise finds off late.

Patrice Rushen – Posh. Contains “Never gonna give you up”. I have a funny feeling I already own this but I wasn’t sure… Great album anyway!

Rockie Robbins – same. Not to be confused with his 1979 album that was also called “Rockie Robbins” (and which contains a truly beautiful version of the EW&F ballad “Be ever wonderful). This LP is from 1985 on MCA. I bought it coz it was cheap but I don’t know it.

CD’s:

Patrice Rushen – Signature (1997). Smooth jazz with many great guests: Paulinho Da Costa, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, and all the well known names such as Ndugu Chancler on drums, Paul Jackson Jr. on guitar, Neil Stubenhaus and “Ready” Freddie Washington on bass. Marky – go check your Ray Parker Jnr. & Raydio, Rufus, early 80’s Herbie Hancock and various Quincy Jones recordings for name value!

Todd Terry presents Ready For A New Day featuring Martha Wash, Jocelyn Brown, Shannon (1997). Nuff said!

Alexander O’Neal – All mixed up (1988). All the 12” versions.

12” (all not interesting for the disco diehards me thinks!):

Cece Peniston – Before I lay (you drive me crazy) (1996). The only reason I bought this is the fact that the label mentions it contains a sample from one of my alltime favorite songs: “Wildflower” by Skylark. This could be deathly or great…

Jaki Graham – Ain’t nobody (1994). Really, do we need yet another version of this Rufus classic? Well… maybe. The remix by Love To Infinity is what made me by it.

Barry White – Come on (1995) – including 6 remixes. The reason I bought is for the Bobby D’Ambrosio remix for Def Mix productions (and you will see a pattern emerging here!)

Toni Braxton – I don’t want to (1996) – Promo only DJ pack that includes the Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie remixes for Def Mix. I think I have all these versions already on a double CD single set. Oh well…

Mica Paris – Breathe life into me (1989). Includes the Frankie Knuckles remixes for Def Mix. And it is a beauty of a track!

Ace Of Base – Living in danger (1994). Contains the David Morales/Satoshi Tomiie remix for (you have guessed it) Def Mix productions. Def Mix remixed the Ace Of Base track “Lucky love” beautifully so I am curious to hear this one.

Miles Jaye – Heaven (1989). Contains the David Morales remix for Def Mix productions. OK, that was the last one…

For those keeping score, I now own more than 500 different tracks remixed by Def Mix.
