Don't know the answer, but have an additional question. Can someone confirm/solve the urban legend that the first ever Rick Astley recording was "When you gonna" by Rick and Lisa (1987). And is Lisa indeed Lisa Stansfield?
Guess I'm nothing but questions today.
Who can tell me why this career came to such an abrupt end? I mean, the man did have the voice. Did he choose to quit or what?

Rick Astley did release a song called "Sleeping" in the fall of 2001. It had a Todd Terry remix and was okay, but didn't compare to his 80's stuff.
The song received no radio airplay, but was played in certain gay circles.
Despite being an American record company's wet dream (that being a white man who sings like a black man), Astley's 15 minutes of fame came to an end when he released an album titled "Body And Soul" which was conspicuously lacking in both. The album flopped, and everyone moved on to the next flavour-of-the-moment.
Like you Nicky, I too wondered what happened to this guy. I was guessing he remained popular in Europe but was ignored here.
I remember a lot of us used to think he was Colonel Abrahms(sp).

In the pop up version of Never Gonna Give You Up's video they had several tidbits of him. Most of them have been said. However they said that in 1991 Rick tried to come back to the music world wearing a different fashion style and long hippie hair and that he was unsuccesful. Also that in 1994 he did some vocals for the Lion King.
And they showed George Michael dancing
