In my opinion, her last album LOVER'S ROCK (although fine) comes nowhere near her 1993's LOVE DE LUXE.
Face # 1 :)

She is so thin, but what a face... and she knows how to pose:

About her albums, for me the first three said it all.

It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
I agree, the 1st three LP's placed her in her own genre, lol. There will never be another as distinctive in voice and style.
And as far as "looks" go......... well, I'd be married now if she was available....

I've always found her quite stunning. But she has the kind of voice that I tire of quickly (ditto Anita Baker). Favorite songs: "Love is Stronger Than Pride", "The Kiss of Life"
I remember back in the 80's when videos first started airing on TV. Every Friday & Saturday night you could rest assured that you WOULD be seeing at least two of hers per show from whatever album she had on the waves at the time. When she released the "Diamond Life" album, That pretty much made me a fan for life. I remember having the album and I must have bought the cassette at least 4 or 5 times because either it would pop, get lost or stolen, loaned out and never returned.....Thank god for CD's and for letting all her stuff stay in circulation. My favorite tracks are "Is It A Crime", Hang On To Your Love, Your Love Is King & The Sweetest Taboo. Hell, I like her whole catalogue. The "No Ordinary Love" video where she is a mermaid is one of the most original concepts for a video that I have ever seen. That's what I find so unique about her. Out of all the female singers that were around in those days up until today, Nobody sounds like her. Truly a style of her own. Her band "Sweetback" released a cd back in the mid 90's that was pretty good.....A mix of Sade-ish instrumentals and a couple with vocals. I wonder what happened to those guys?

Oh boy, me too.Originally Written by visuals
For me, her best work still is her 1993 LOVE DE LUXE.
Songs like CHERISH THE DAY, LIKE A TATOO, PEARLS, BULLET PROOF SOUL, KISS OF LIFE, COULDN'T LOVE YOU MORE are like precious jewels.
Yes. A wonderful album. A mix of R&B, athmospheric, lounge & ambient.Originally Written by visuals
But don't worry VISUALS... SWEETBACK have realeased their new album just a while back. I haven't heard it yet, but I read positive reviews.
