I have a SMOKIN' disco medley of

Diana Ross and the Supremes best hits, the sound quality is unbelievable. It has a disco medley of Ross' "No One Gets the Prize"/
"The Boss" on the flip side. And Bonnie Pointer's rendition of "Heaven Must Have Sent You" is also great (I love the chorus of her "Free Me From My Freedom" ("Tie me to a tree! Handcuff me!")

About Shaun Cassidy and "Shake Me..." - I'm not sure that's disco,I was too young, but remember only that he is not looking like Alice Cooper...

Thanks for that link Shenkin. Shalamar sounds like a bad Eddie Kendricks imitation. I'll stick with the J5 version !

Helena Harris ??? Discodisk?? I'll take your word on that one . Is it recommended listening??
There's one more ( at least ?) version of LOVE IS LIKE AN ITCHING IN MY HEART I'm aware of .

By a big disco name too . An artist with #1 disco tunes !!

    ?????

I can think of a few more...

LOVE IS LIKE AN ITCHING IN MY HEART--also recorded by LISA (Moby Dick) & another version by KRYSTOL. (Epic? I think)

Narada Michael Walden did a version of REACH OUT, I'LL BE THERE on Atlantic that was really good. (around '82-'83)

Don't forget Carl Carlton's cover of BABY, I NEED YOUR LOVIN' or Cynthia Manley's cover of BACK IN MY ARMS AGAIN

Oh, and Stevie Woods did a nice cover of AIN'T THAT PECULIAR; Baby June Pointer covered "I'M READY FOR LOVE"; I think these were all H-D-H songs.....oh and Hodges, Smith & James did DANCING IN THE STREETS too.

Rems: the Shalamar cover of "Forever Came Today" is on the "Uptown Festival" album, which is composed primarily of Motown covers (I like them but they don't match the originals). I suspect the album is out of print now (I have a copy), but you may be surprised to discover the album has songs written by none other than Don Cornelius (or maybe it's NOT so surprising considering the album was released on his Soul Train label). Of all the discofied covers of Motown songs, my favorite is Bonnie Pointer's transformation of "Heaven Must Have Sent You". She really "to' up" the song....I'm surprised it wasn't as big a pop hit as "Don't Leave Me This Way".

and while we're speaking of Holland Dozier Holland, did my eyes deceive me or did I see them listed as producers on a Donny and Marie album once?

Aside Deborah's version, Cerrone's "Standing In the Shadows Of Love/Freak Connection" medley he did with Thor Baldursson was excellent, and we did a version of "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" by Cijay on Power Records in the 1980's that was pretty cool..

There is also a version of Reach Out I'll Be There by a group called Dynamic Seven, from 1983.

Regardless of who sings it, I still totally dislike this song.

Brian Holland produced Donny's 1978 "Donald Clark Osmond" album, while he produced Donny & Marie's 1978 "Winning Combination" album. The majority of the songs on both albums were written by them.

Tapps did a version of Sugar Pie Honey Bunch in the 80's that became one of their most popular ever recordings in Asia.

If we're talking about the Donny & Marie albums, we should also mention the last three albums by my beloved Supremes. The Holland Brothers (Brian Holland - producer / Eddie Holland - exec. producer) did a couple on their 75 self-titled, but the last two - "High Energy" and "Mary Scherrie & Susaye" in their entirety. They also did much of The Jackson 5's last Motown record, "Moving Violation," The Dynamic Superiors' album with their remake of "Nowhere To Run" and one of my favourite Thelma Houston tracks, "I Can't Go On Living Without Your Love," just to name a few. I think it should be noted though, that Lamont Dozier (as far as I know) wasn't in the picture with these albums, even though they still used Holland-Dozier-Holland as the name of their production company.

They wrote and produced some songs for Diana Ross but they weren't released at the time. Some were released way after, like those on 2003's “diana deluxe“. «You build me up to tear me down» is IMO the best song (recorded and re-recorded 5 times between Dec. 1975 and Apr. 1978).

Another good disco track is Lamont Dozier's «Boogie business», remixed by Jimmy Burgess for the 12" (n°47 disco). The original version is on the lp "Bittersweet" produced by Frank Wilson in 1979.

No, the "Goin Coconuts" album that "On The Shelf" was from was produced by Mike Curb, Michael Lloyd and the Osmond Brothers. "On The Shelf" was also the theme to their atrocious movie "Goin Coconuts". Personally this is one of my favourite songs by them and it's a shame the 12" of this is only 4-something minutes. It would have been nice to have seen it mixed to a 6 or 7 minute version. Sadly HDH only produced those two albums in question.

Billboard magazine reviews of both that I found online:

    For "Winning Combination"
All but two of the cuts here are Holland-Dozier-Holland Productions, and they have much the same sleek, shimmering sound that characterized H-D-H's work with the Supremes a decade ago. Basically this is a collection of brassy, upbeat, disco-ish songs which feature Marie's plaintive innocence and the remarkable elasticity of Donny's fully-matured, highly-versatile voice. Good slick instrumentation throughout. Best cuts: "Soul And Inspiration," "Winning Combination," "I Want To Be In Your World," "Angel Love (Heaven Is Where You Are)." Dealers: Donny & Marie remain the hottest Osmond record configuration.

    For "Donald Clark Osmond"
The seriousness and formality inferred by the title is also evident in the music with this album signifying Osmond as a complete artist. Brian Holland's crafty production has refined the mass teenybopper star into a credible pop vocalist capable of broadening his appeal to higher demographics. Tackling a wide spectrum of material that includes use of synthesizers, horns, strings and percussion, Osmond reveals new vocal dimensions with some gutsy vocals on the bouncers and sensitive one on the ballads. The lush arrangements by Jimmie Haskell, McKinely Jackson and Holland all add to Osmond's maturation. Best cuts: "I Can't Stand It," "The More I Live (More I Love)," "You Got Me Dangling On A String," "Oh It Must Be Love." Dealers: Osmond is seen weekly on his tv show.

I'm gonna look for these HDH produced Osmond recordings the next time I'm in the bargain bins, only because I want to hear the songs. Can't figure out why such talented producers would want to work with such humdrum singers, unless it was only for the bucks.
