may I ask what software most of you use

to transfer music to your computer's sound card? I mean, which do you consider the easiest to use (and preferably reasonably priced). Hopefully software that removes pops and clicks. Really tired of paying for software that only Einstein can understand. Thanks.

Adobe Audition, but it's no longer as reasonably priced as it once was (I've been using it since the Cool Edit days) and it takes a lot of learning to get the most of it. Stellar results for those who are willing to put in the effort, though.

For easy software to convert vinyl recordings to digital, I'd recommend Audiograbber. It doesn't remove pops and clicks though but for simplicity, you can't beat it.

Connection is probably the toughest part...getting the right adapters to go from your stereo's auxiliary to microphone input on the computer. Once you're connected and Audiograbber is installed, go under 'file', click on 'line in sampling' and you're there! There are meters to adjust the volume. If you record an entire album, there's a setting that will separate the tracks so each song is given it's own file. The files themselves are wav format...not mp3...so they're ripe for burning to cd. You can easily change the files to mp3 within Audiograbber as well.

Oh, and the sweet thing is, I just went to their website...it's now Freeware, meaning you get it for nothing. Audio experts might have their negative views on it...but for home use and ease, you can't beat it.

This will depend on what sound card you have. Some sound cards have dedicated mic jacks, and you must connect to the Line In or the equivalent. Others (such as mine) have no mic jacks at all.
