Does anyone remember in the early 70's when one of the cereal companies (Post??) used to put records on the back of cereal boxes.

I had one but don't know what became of it.

If memory serves, this was a one sided record only as the other side was part of the cereal box.

Yeah, Nrg, I remember those records. For some reason I'm thinking I got one from the back of a box of Sugar Crisp (back in the days when it was still acceptable to call a cereal "sugar" anything!), so I think you might be right about the Post brand.

I can't remember what the song on the record was, but it was definitely one-sided with a cardboard back. So Post was doing one-sided singles years before Casablanca!

If I'm not mistaken, one of the singles was an Archies tune, possibly "Jingle Jangle".
I can remember everyone from Mad Magazine to certain toy companies (the makers of the Dick Tracy puppets) releasing low-tech "records" like this.

I was thinking that it was an Archies song too, but since I was so unsure, I didn't bother mentioning it.

"Sugar Sugar" certainly would have been an appropriate choice!

it was definitely "Sugar Suagar" by archies..i think i still have the single...flimsy bendable vinyl, but it palyed...plus pretty sure "I think i love you" by David Cassidy was also on the cereal boxex...could have been sugar puffs or maybe cap'n crunch...

I still have one of these around which came from a "Sugar Crisp" box. It was a Motown record with two songs (Jackson Five I think), but I'll need to dig it out to make sure.

I found a site that has pictures of some of the records. The one I had I believe was Bobby Sherman.

    Nrg,

Wow, does that bring back memories of waking up at 7am Saturday morning and filling up a big bowl of sugary teeth rotting grains.

It's still called "Sugar Crisp" in Canada.

I think in the States it's now called "Super Golden Crisp." Same amount of sugar, I'd guess; it only the name that's healthier.

I AM pathetic. This morning at Ralphs, while shopping for cereal--the "Sugar Crisp" post stuck in my head...and I HAD to find out what happened to Sugar Crisp. Didn't they make it any more???? Ah, I see...now it's called Golden Crisp!!!!!

SO--guess which breaksfast cereal I'm eating as I type this? NO--NOT the usual Cracklin' Oat Bran or Raisin Bran or Cheerios or Rice Krispies or Corn Flakes--NO... it's Golden Crisp, baby.... I'm 10 years old again. Now what's on cartoons this morning? "Mighty Mouse"???? (Yeah, I'm OLD!!!)

In the States its called "Super Sugar Golden Crisp" and its damn near $5.00!

Marky, you're not the only one that still eats cereal. From time too time, I eat:
    Fruity & Cocoa Pebbles
    Cocoa Puffs
    Honeycomb
    Froot Loops
    Trix
    Apple Jacks
    Raisin Bran (Kelloggs)
    Chex (all types)
    Sugar Corn Puffs
    Special K
    Captain Crunch (with berries)

during the wintertime, I'll buy the Quaker Instant Oatmeal variety box with my faves:
    Strawberries & Cream
    Peaches & Cream
    Apples & Cinnamon
    Raisins & Spice

As you can see, I still have that 10 year old in me too!

Re: Records On The Back of Cereal Boxes

There were a BUNCH of back-of-the-cerealbox records in the late 60's...Bobby Sherman, The Jackson Five, The Archies, Josie and the Pussycats, etc. There were generally several selections by one artist offered on the back...usually a couple were hits, with others being lp selections. I think Jingle Jangle by the Archies was one of the "hits" packaged on the back.

By the way...the Partridge Family was not one of the artists offered on the back of the cereal box. Columbia Studios was much too CHEAP to let a dollar go by their greedy hands as to GIVE something away. So, I Think I Love You was never offered as a giveaway.
