Well, in terms of music, it's a jazz vocalization using non-words.

Example: "scoobady-do wop doobie-do yup badda bappa doya doya..."

    John Scatman: "I'm the scatman"

The 12" inch of Sharon Redd's "Can you handle it". That's rhythm scatting folks!

One of the best scat-artists however are Al Jarreau, Billy Paul and Miss Aretha Franklin "Jump to it").

I can't believe I forgot the coolest scat of all - the baritone in 'Sugar Pie Guy' by The Joneses.

Eddie Harris - Get On Down......amazing, syncopated scatting from the late, veteran saxophonist.

Several good choices by the late, great Vicki Sue Robinson: "Nighttime Fantasy," "Feels So Good (It Must Be Wrong)" and of course "Turn the Beat Around" come to mind immediately. That girl could really cut loose!

non-disco wise I can recommend Ella Fitzgerald -Hotta Chocolata.
Not only does she an amazing scat on the lyrics but the lyrics themselves are fantasy Italian babble that are fun and absolutely great
Disco wise Lenny Williams 'shoo doo fu fu ooh!'
quasi disco Trio -da da da (I don't love you you don't love me) aha aha aha

Re: Who has best scat in a song disco/quasi disco/or nondisco?

Am I the only one who cracks up everytime I hear Bonnie Pointer's scat toward the end of "Heaven Must Have Sent You"? When she starts that "boop bup boop bup doop bup bup, I love you more and more each day" I have a huge ear to ear grin on my face each time.

I'm sure that wasn't the intended reaction, but it sure is funny to me.
