Boney M Show 'Bigger Than Mamma Mia!'
- Writer promises more glitz and glam for musical
THE MAN behind the upcoming Boney M musical says his creation will have “more show” than Mamma Mia!, the hugely successful Abba musical.
Abba and Boney M were pop rivals in the 1970s and while Abba come out on top for most, Boney M were always more flamboyant and that was down to the band’s songwriter/producer Frank Farian, who is also in charge of the musical.
“It's a little bit different from Abba, but I think we have more show, and the budget is a little bigger,” said Farian of the musical, provisionally titled Daddy Cool after one of Boney M‘s biggest hits.
“I have a lot of respect for the Abba people. But Abba was always a little bit more normal. With Boney M, always a big show.”
That show, still being written ahead of an April launch, features Boney M songs around a plot about two London gangs. Quite how such a storyline can accommodate songs like Rasputin and Mary’s Boy Child remains to be seen, but it sounds like Farian is goint to have a lot of fun trying.
Daddy Cool starts previews at the Shaftesbury Theatre from the end of April.
:)
I can't wait for when they write one using the music of LUV.

Whatever happened to them?
Not forgetting Who do you wanna be and My man. Was told by a Dutch friend of mine that one of them is now a fashion editor ????
They have reformed and will enlighten you with new performances and new music very, very soon :lol:Originally Written by needlefingers
And to complete your joy: from April 3rd they have their own reality-series on Dutch Tv-station RTL4, where the preparations and the shaping of the comeback will thrill your screen!
Greatest pop-rock musical, IMHO: "Rock Follies," with brilliant song score by Andy MacKay and Howard Schuman, flawless lead vocals by the fab Julie Covington, of genius barbed lyrics:
I've been a Christian and I've served the good Lord;
Now I will move on, and I shall get my reward:
My name on a hundred-foot-high billboard!
Right on the top of sugar mountain, I can see it!
Right on the top of sugar mountain.
Also answers the question of many Americans: who the heck is Rula Lenska?
We saw it on American public TV in 1976, packaged like the art film it was.Was not surprised in late Nineties to know there was already a West End stage revival.Plot seems to me a slam-dunk, after this past decade of reality TV, innumerable celebrity biography episodes.
