I'm way more into movies now than music of any genre. Stock up on DVDs!

Apart from the occasional Prince release, I've returned to the mothership and it's all vintage Disco 24/7.

I have tasted many new foods but I didn't like 'em. So: Back To The Old School!

And I can tell you that a lot of 40something's that I know have followed my path.

Could we be a new cult? :o The worldwide church of Disco? :o

    BTW, I'm born in 1963!

    Church of Disco.

I still like Disco and Philly Soul, though much of the dance music from the '80s, 90s and 00s is pretty good. My kid's a bouncer and he's mixed up some good CDs of new stuff.

    Check it out.

CM doesn't get any rise in my shorts.

I have a respect for country and even have some Alabama, Exile, Gary Morris, Crystal Gayle stuff that's solid. I first enjoyed and still collect obscure Black music from all genres except rap, reggae, and rock. My primary listening and collecting focus is from 1964-1997 with equal weight to all eras. I don't have a disco fetish!

My favorite is definitely Quiet Storm and contemporary jazz like the new releases by Pieces of a Dream, Pamela Williams, and Gerald Albright. This current contemporary jazz scene definitely has roots in disco and soul from the 70's. Just listen to the bass lines and sax riffs on Walter Beasley's records. Other soul-jazz artists I really dig but haven't heard from in a while are Vernell Brown Jr. and Craig T Cooper. It's strange that what sounds like a 80's or 90's soul ballad is called smooth jazz today.

I'm not thrilled with the Usher's, the Marcus Houston's, ect of current soul. This over-explicit and put all out front attitude started with R Kelly and H-town in the mid 90's.

Likewise, I'm not a big fan of albums that are all covers like those issued by Maysa, Phil Perry, and Jeffrey Osborne amongst many, many others. There's nothing new and the melodies and production stinks!!!

    FOR MIDAS:

Soul artists in the 90's that I really dug (much in the vein of Gap Band's Wednesday Lover were):
    1) Simple Pleasure-Never before, Where do we go from here
    2) Rude Boys-Are you lonely for me
    3) Portrait-Committment, Yours forever, I can call you
    4) Lorenzo Smith-Tic Toc
    5) Vesta-Special
    6) Christopher Williams-Promises, Promises
    7) Wooten Brothers-Tell me, We could be together
    8) Kiara-This time
    9) Guesss-many
    10) Intro-Let me be the one
    11) Chante Moore's first LpPrecious
    12) Basic Black-Special Kind of fool
    13)Tene Williams-Give him a love, Blue bird
    14) Johnny Gill-There you go, A quiet time to play
    15) After 7/Milestone-I care about you

    re: music now

I guess I'm at the point where as I appreciate most music styles ......I've been around long enough to have the pleasure of listening to disco, funk, go go, new-wave, hip-hop, rock, reggae, jazz, and most music genre's__ However I still like listening to a nice house music set on a late Saturday night.....throw on some Jazz on a lazy Sunday evening. I still enjoy listening to Eric B. and Rakem, PE, BDP, Gangstar, when cruz'in the hood'.... I even throw on some Zep, Black Sabat, Jimmy, and Alice Cooper! And of course I still dig my Rasta brothas' Bob Marley, Ziggy etc.

    Sorry no Country

I could never listen to country music. I would rather listen to nails on a blackboard than country music.

I listen to a bit of everything these days, of course a lot of the old disco / soul / r&b, but I also listen to house music from the 80's and 90's, and a lot of electronic music from more recent releases.

My mp3 is FULL of Disco and I'm still lovin' it, there is still soooo much to discover especially since joining this site.
That said my musical taste is generally really varied, I like a lot of Soulful house, a bit of R&B(but boy are they running out of ideas!),dancy pop like Madonna, some indie rock,Quiet storm. But really it's Disco all the way, having a huge record and CD collection including all the afore mentioned stuff, I've surprised myself by the way that I'm listening to so much old stuff and always look forward to the disco track that I was unaware of.
The beginning of this thread almosts suggest that when you hit 40 you have to start listening to less energized stuff (Country!!???!!)
    No, no, no!!!

Go First Class to the EuroLounge, a cinematic world of jet set soundscapes, international espionge, night club rhythms, jungle fever, dangerous hi-speed chase music, Latin percussion and lush orchestras. Very much like disco in fact. First step: The Espresso Espresso cd comp by the Karminsky Bros, with cool bongo tunes you never heard before but also with tracks like "Couleur Cafe" by by Serge Gainsbourg and the peerless "Beginnings" of Astrud Gilberto. Next step Italian soundtracks by Stelvio Cipriani, Piero Umiliani and others - mutated bossa & soul music you can chill to, dance to or commit diamond robberies to. Then get the "Danger: Diabolik!" and "The 10th Victim" dvds for further essential lifestyle tips. Then start collecting Amanda Lear, Asha Puthli and Nancy Nova records.

Just had a very pleasant late evening. On German TV-station WDR3, there was a special 70's night, with great footage of political, social and sexual events of the haydays.

And after that there was a program on Disco dancing, like it was in the German clubs BITD. There also were interviews (very recently recorded) with Frank Farian AND Penny McLean and Mayte (Baccara).

Sorry I don't have any pics but both ladies look very good! What surprised me was that Penny still likes the music but she said she hated the dancing coz' she has no talent for the moves. She also always had troubles riding a bicycle :o

After that we watched "The Stud"

My wife is born in '78, she didn't get my trance after those views. Poor soul

EDIT: I do have some pics
