Fine Young Cannibals did a dancey version in 1985 and it isn't that bad.
But, I have the 12 inch single and they didn't extend it.
It clocks in at 3:24.

Bobby O did a pretty good job as well in '87. The Almighty label's group Obsession covered it a few years ago. Both give the song a hi-nrg treatment but nothing matches the passion of Elvis' original.
I'm surprised no one attempted it if there wasn't a cover version during the 70s. The pulsing groove in that song would have translated wonderfully into a disco beat. Cher should have tried it, since she sounds like a female Elvis anyway.
Disco Funk
In a search I did on AMG(allmusicguide.com), I found that Candi Staton also did a version.
And in the samples provided, it seems there were two different mixes of it.
One sounded like an lp version and the other sounded like it was remixed for dance.
If you visit the website, search by the song if you want to hear the 2 different versions.
Check it out.
Candi Staton did a cover version in 1982 on sugarhill records there is a 12" promo of it, however the time is only 3:57

"A TOM MOULTON MIX "
and its quite good 8) ( never heard a bad version yet though )....nice true to original guitar work ...strings .... harmonious female background singing thruout (mandatory ) ....
