    King Floyd has died

    *****

I'm sorry to report the passing of soulman King Floyd .

    Date of birth
    13 February 1945
    New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

    Date of death
    6 March 2006
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. (complications from a stroke and diabetes)

How good was his song GROOVE ME ??
How about it not only reached the #1 spot on the soul chart on a tiny obscure label .... but it stayed there for three weeks in January of 1971 ......

That's too bad. RIP King Floyd.

I recently bought one of his best of collections, and while a lot of the songs are similar to Groove Me (kind of like how Joe Tex kept re-creating the 'I Gotcha' arrangement), he was consistently funky. Not James Brown, Kool & The Gang funky, but soul funky like the Stax or Muscle Shoals stuff.
