Best coverage of DISCO in a magazine?

Best coverage of DISCO in a magazine?

Either 70's or 80's or even during the 1970's nostalgia period of the 1990's.

Single issues or special issues from mainstream magazines or entire collections of short lived lesser known publications etc... Complete with pictures, articles, interviews, album advertisements etc...

Europe, North or South America, Asia etc...

Discothekin B, later known as DiscoTrade must be one of the oldest and most dedicated weekly magazines that came out during the golden years 1976-1980. Published by Alex Kabbaz in NYC it featured all the news on clubs, recordpools, the equipment designed and used in disco's, previews and reviews of the latest disco vinyl output and of course lots of charts; radio, sales, and what DJ's throughout the US were playing at the time.
The magazine had pictures, ads from the record labels and manufacturers of equipment, impressions of the clubs of the time and of course some interviews with people that mattered in disco.

I had a subscription from 1978 onwards and all copies that survived are treasured as documents from a great era.

Here in The Yuk, we have a mag called Blues & Soul which has been going since the mid 1960s. It was regarded as one the essential publications to buy during the 'disco years'. Many of the journalist who wrote for it were either DJs, big music fans, or had some connection with the music industry. The music charts they published were also considered to be a pretty accurate record of what was popular in the clubs and discos at the time. They also had articles on what DJ equipment to buy, and adverts for musicians and singers. Black Echos magazine was another essential purchase for chart and release info.

New Yorker magazine had an interesting story about the ROLLER DISCO scene complete with pictures. I do not know exactly which issue it was in though.

I agree, Davicillo. I used to run to the newsagents to get my copy each week. It was amazing how much information about a song he could get over in two lines. Once you'd deciphered his own special language, that is!

I used to pour over the disco chart as well. Do you remember what information they were compiled from? I've been looking on the net for any imformation about them but, as yet, nothing.

For an all-genre article, there's a very good one in the 1992 edition of The Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock n' Roll. Don't know if it survived in the last edition. I think the writer is called Tom Smucker.

Please do suggest magazines of that era, for me it's very interesting.
