FIND of The Week #1: Jimmy Bo Horne: Is It In

    Hi People,
I thought it would be interesting to start a new topic that could hopefully run and run...

FIND of The Week - FTW

This section would let us swap notes on ONE record that any one of us has unearthed/rediscovered during the preceeding week....First to post gets the spot, but it MUST run for one week so that everyone gets a chance to post.
The following week another contributer puts up a tune.
The only stipulation being it must NOT be a track that is VERY well known.
Hope it is succesful, it's up to you......

    I will start with
Jimmy Bo Horne -Is It In...
    http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/3345_0_2_0_C/
after seeing a post about this I dug out my cd comp. - Disco Explosion and listened to it again.

It has got to be one of the best intro's ever...the way it builds and builds from a groovy bass line through hand claps and then the drums, before that incessant guitar starts the real deal..
The lyrics although short , are clever and add meaning.

The song is probably not the greatest to dance to, It's one of those fantasy songs that you can picture happening in a disco or movie.

    Very KC and Very moreish......

    What say you ????

Dark, moody and brooding. And I like it.

Not a big hit in it's day(I don't even remember playing it). But I (re)discovered it in the early 90's and really like it.

I got the "Jimmy "Bo" Horne:The Greatest Hits Remixes" CD
    Amazon-U.S. | Amazon-U.K. | Amazon-Germany | Amazon-France
and it has 2 updated mixes of "Is It In". But they don't match up to the original.

In that other post, I mentioned a disco medley megamix that uses "Is It In" as the bed for the medley. I know I have that mix on some old cassette. Anybody know about that mix?

If you like this song, you might check out George McCrae's "Don't You Feel My Love"(if you don't already know it). But only the 12 inch remix on the Sunshine Sound label. It is written by Casey/Finch and also sounds KCish. It also captures a dark disco sound and I played this song alot.

Both these songs were different for the artists. They, and us, were more used to upbeat themes from them. But it was 1980, disco was changing, and KC also released "Please Don't Go" that year. It seems KC was writing/producing with a bit more angst.

Whatever it was, I like all three songs.

I have this megamix on vinyl...it's the Goodie Goodie Mixer. I only learned recently from this forum that it's the rhythm of 'Is It In' that is used as the basis of the medley. Fantastic mix throughout! 8)

"Is It In" may not have been big commercially, but it was and still is a staple in any good skating rink DJ's arsenal, its OK to dance to, but the beat and the melody are really good when trying to get a groove going at the rink, I've been skating for over 25 yrs, and I've never seen the floor empty when that song is playing :D

I haven't participated in your chosen debut record .... only because I don't know it .....

( Anyone know of an audio link? :-? )

    Very KC and Very moreish......
What is "moreish" ? ..... as in "more, more, more " perhaps ??

    Thanks for the hook-up Needles !!! :D

Definately got my head bobbin' !! Excellent intro....
I love that KC sound ...... wish KC himself would've pursued it even further back in '76 -'77......

Kept wanting to mix this into .....LAST NIGHT A DJ SAVED MY LIFE

    Especially good at around 3:00 - 4:00

Not too big on that Rick James "SUPERFREAK"ish vocal though ... ( there's only one RJ ) .

    This is a keeper !

Some other songs I think it mixes well with:

D Train "Keep On", "Music", "Walk On By"

even "You're The One For Me"

    also

    Kano "I'm Ready", "It's A War"

    Fantasy "You're Too Late"

Evelyn "Champaign" King "I Don't Know If It's Right"

    Interesting choices!

The first song that I thought of was Galaxy by War. I imagine DJs would have enjoyed mxing those two...also Can't Fake The Feeling by Geraldine Hunt.

Not to dismiss the topic, but I find it hard to think of "Is It In" as a "find" - it was always a big hit on my playlist, and a very well known track with a great KC-type sound. I love it when I find out about a track on this site (usually some rare euro or italo disco) that I have never heard of, but I can't imagine many haven't heard of this one.

I think the intention of this thread is to chat about those great, not-so-familiar tunes that a member has recently unearthed and re-discovered. I would hope that it doesn't turn out to be the chance for someone to try to impress others with some totally rare, remote track that no one has heard. That would hardly be a fun discussion.

I agree with you discokicks. But, I find it hard to think that anyone reading these forums would say that this track is "not very well known". It's like me saying I just discovered Souveniers or Risky Changes. But, I would agree, discussions of completely unknown tracks might be boring. Still, it would give you something new to seek out and listen to.

    TQ....Over to You

Thanks To Bernie for putting this as a sticky, I too hope it flies.
    Thanks to all for participating:
Yes I know this track may have been known by most, but some were NOT aware of it, and liked it...That is the intention of this idea..That tunes that may have 'slipped under the radar' get a second hearing and hopefully some discohead somewhere is helped in finding a real gem of a song.

NOW IT'S OVER TO YOU...ANYBODY WANT TO ADD THE NEXT DISC ???

(BTW- Moreish...means you need to hear/play it again...once is not enough.)
