Paul Winley was a Bronx musician and record dealer in the 50s, 60s & 70's. He ran a shop in the Bronx and produced several records with his label.I just discovered on Ebay for the first time a ‘Paul Winley’ record, I had never seen this label before, apparently they are collectors item because it sold for $100.00, the song was "who is he and what it’s he to you” by Created Source, which I didn’t know existed on 12” to begin with, any one knows any other hits released on this label?
In the mid 70s his shop began a reference point for black djs of the Bronx trying to find new and obscure breaks.
Paul Winley released several records of groups or singers signed to other labels, without caring too much of copyrights.
Not only PW released that classic CREATIVE SOURCE track, but also a very sough after album by GEORGE BENSON ("Erotic moods" in 1978), that Benson never authorized; and the funky HARLEM UNDERGROUND BAND ("Smokin' cheeba cheeba") LP with G Benson, Dave Baby Cortez etc.
PW release also some of the first rap records ever ("Rhymin' & rappin" in 79 and "Vicious rap" by Tania Winley -his doughter- in 1980. these also sell for big bucks).
Moreover, on PW records was issued the famous bootleg "Death mix" by Afrika Bambaataa, and this is very rare too!!
PW also issued in the early 80s six albums titled "Super Disco Brakes" including a lot of the classic Bronx breaks.
Almost everything on PW is reissued now and I think there's a CD too called "the best of Paul Winley Records".
