    Curtis Mayfield - No Goodbyes

Absolutely love this song, especially that great string section. One of my favourites off his "Do It All Night" album..

Even though I've come across nothing but bad reviews of the album, I really enjoy it, particularly the disco tracks. Then again, I don't really have much to compare it with. I'm not yet familiar with much of Curtis' own stuff aside from some of the things he's produced for other artists.. Still, I think this stands up quite well on it's own.. Anyone else like this one?

I love the song, I used to play (Lp version) it all the time, and recently was spining the 12" below in the vault. Which by the way was very difficult to get back then (for me, and in my area anyways), I don't think I found a copy until sometimes in the early 80's after a retiring DJ sold all his collection in a local store, and I was lucky to get there in time. :D

Rock critics who worship What's going onLp by Marvin Gaye usually dismiss his next Let's get it on LP. Despite obtaining the same amount of hits and airplay, these rock critics see the social message as having depth and love songs and dance music as shallow and/or poorly produced.
They were even harsher on Curtis Mayfield. I actually enjoy his ballads and album with Linda Clifford but again it gets dismissed by some.

Yeah I got the feeling that was what was behind much of the bad reviews. I also read that his Curtom label wasn't doing so well at the time, so he needed a hit to turn things around.. That probably made it an easy target as well..

«No Goodbyes» is maybe the only good song from the album. «You are, you are», originally sung by Linda Clifford is not as good as her version. On the other hand, the follow-up, Heartbeat, released in 1979, is really a good album with disco songs produced by Norman Harris & Ronald Tyson («Tell me tell me (how do you like to be loved)» and Bunny Sigler («What's my woman for»). Both excellent!. «Love me, love me now» is the last good disco song from Mayfield (1980).
