Come on people stop being shy
just spit out
Personally when it comes to voices I love
Marvin
But I mean he is way too versatile to be able to label him as descriptive of my music taste....
couldn't squeeze the last letter in the subject heading but name one artist and group that would best describe and define the type of music (disco) you like
To make it a bit challenging and not a name dropping orgy
lets stick to naming just
1 Group
and 1 Artist
I will go first:
Group: The Whispers
Artist: Rick James
Come on people stop being shy
just spit out
Personally when it comes to voices I love
Marvin
But I mean he is way too versatile to be able to label him as descriptive of my music taste....
Group: the O'jays
artist: Stephanie Mills (the stuff with Mtume)
Gotta luv da stuff with Mtume Eddie

This was difficult sutnop.
After some thought, here goes.
Artist - Chaka Khan
Group - Chic
Not easy at all.
Artist - Teena Marie
Group - Voyage
Group: Chic (and the Tavares brothers).
Artist: this is a tough one but I narrowed it down to Barry White, who in my mind is the definition of Kool and Class.
Great Range there Jam master JayOriginally Written by jam master jay
gotta love the strings and hornes in the productions of Teena

Soooo Hard to pick just one... Well I don't have to stamp it in my forehead so here we go:
Group; B.T. Express
Artist; Chaka Kahn
I didn't have much problem with the topic.... it was a matter of what artist/artists still have an impact in your life today.
Group: OHIO PLAYERS
Picked these guys because not only can they "funk" as good as the rest... their LP cuts make them special. Although they don't have the hot lead singer... they were still different and I don't know anybody who likes or appreciates them anymore.
Artist: CHAKA KHAN
It was a toss up between a few... But if I had a wish to meet the person who give you one of the biggest charge would be her. She can do it all. What range in her voice... there's nobody like her.
Solo artist; Donna Summer
Group(s); Change & Chic
Ok,.....OKayy......I'm Thinkin' I'm Thinkin'....lol
For right now I'm gonna go with.....
Group: Slave
Artist: Lillo Thomas
....this is apt to change without notice 8) ......Wait :o it's changing now.............
Lillo is an interesting choice... you must've been a big fan of the debut LP... Back in my DJ days... I pumped the hell out of the hit single "I'm In Love"Originally Written by qdearl
Hmm, interesting challenge!
GROUP: First Choice
ARTIST: Teddy Pendergrass (with or without those Bluenotes)
It's all about that Philly sound for me.
Actually I'm a big fan of that "Paul Laurence/Kashif" sound, and basically Paul produced better songs for Melba Moore and Lillo than he did for himself 8)Originally Written by efunk_adelic
....of course there were noticable exeptions......"Strung out" being at the top of that list, but you wanted to keep it narrowed down to just 1 entry and just about everyone were naming women, so I thought I'd give the men a little light.... :)
Group - CHIC
Artist - Luther Vandross (with and without Change)
NICE ChicOriginally Written by KayJayEm54
thought of mentioning them too![]()
I would ask you all what you think of the Whispers
I know this girl whose music taste of music is really similar to mine (only difference is that she appreciates Smokey more than me)
everytime we have discussed The Whispers
the conversation hasnt gone so far
cause she says she is kind of tired of them because her father wouldn't stop playing them when she was small
So a second opinion on the Whispers
their style and songs you appreciate by them would be very welcome
I like the Whispers. Their albums were always balanced and complete. By that I mean well produced music with a nice mix of ballads, dance tracks, and everything in between.
I can see where she's coming from  My father is also a big Whispers fan, & around here during the 70's there was a friendly rivalry between fans of the Whispers and fans of Blue Magic, as to who was the best :) I leaned more towards Blue Magic myself,Originally Written by sutnop
But I still loved the Whispers also....
Some of my favorites are
What More can a Girl ask For, And the Beat Goes On, I'm Gonna Make U My Wife, I Can Make it Better, Living Together in Sin, Olivia Lost & Turned Out, Just Gets Better With Time, Seems Like I Gotta Do Wrong, It's a Love Thing, Tonight......
I Could keep going, but you get the picture :D
The Whispers represent whole generations, their music has spanned decades, and I guarantee most people can associate good memories in their past, with a Whispers' song that was out at the time :D
*****
As OK as they were ... it would never occur to me to single them out as the one group anywhere near defining my taste in music.
But then , when I tried to participate in this thread ..I realized there was no such distinct answer . To choose any would mean not to choose another... and its the wide variety I respond to. Vicki Sue today .... Ohio Players tomorrow.
I listen to The Whispers on rare occasion , but I wouldn't claw past others to reach them ....

What about Innocent didn't you like that oneOriginally Written by qdearl
Yes, I loved Innocent from 1990. It was a great track. I'm a big Whispers fan and have every Unidisc CD release of their Solar stuff. I had Cds that Felix Hernandez, an oldies DJ at 98.7 Kiss Fm, said that he has never seen.
I really loved their stuff on Janus and Soul Clock. Two of my later day favorites are "Just gets better with time", which was written by Gary Taylor and "Pissed off (Baby come back)".
stop being a little bitch and participate! :lol:Originally Written by remicks
just playing with you remicks....
If god said... you can only bring to heaven with you one group and one artist to listen to... what would they be? how's that?
