My choice will be, of course, a freestyle record. It is by an artist Inferno. The name of the song is Why Did You Do Me Wrong. Actually, there is no title on the label, but it's obvious that's what the title would be listening to the chorus. I treasure it because it is an excellent song and one of the rarest ever. Most of the die hard freestyle fans never even heard of it.
I found it for $7 in NYC about 2 1/2 years ago. Anyway, now it's your turn!

Maybe someone has "Ten Percent" by Double Exposure...if I'm not mistaken, wasn't that the first 12" single ever?

I just can't pick just one,I do have 'ten percent' but that was only the first retail 12" ever, and it's not very rare, try any promo 12" released before they were sold retail, or Stuff like 'Corazon' LTG Exchange, "Dance Dance Dance" Calhoon or Sun Sun Sun" Ja-kki and many many others, but today a copy of Delegation's "Heartache #9" sold for $199.00 on Ebay, that makes it one of my most priced vinyl pocessions to date.

I think I'm going to find a lot of things I've forgotten. Tonight, I found the 12" version of "The Girl from Ipanema" by Astrud Gilberto. She produced this with Vince Montana. I believe our friend Jussi says this is a rarity. MixMachine mentioned Delegation... I looked and I've got it. The other day we were talking about Johnny Mathis and "Begin the Beguine"/"Gone, Gone, Gone". Got that, too.

Right now, I'd have to pick my 12" of Paulhino da Costa, "Deja Vu/Love Till the End of Time". The song has been mentioned on the forum but I don't know how many have this 10m33s version. It just puts the lp version to shame. Plus, Paulhino is a 'god' in his own time and this song with Philip Bailey (E,W&F) doing vocals --- can't beat it!

I broke down and paid $45 Cnd for "Sun... Sun... Sun..." and it was well worth it IMO.

I've seen the Ethel Merman Disco Album go for absurd sums of money, but that is *not* an album that I "treasure". As a matter of fact, I can't stand it.

Most of my most "treasured" records aren't all that rare or valuable, but I'm sure glad I have 'em... like Costandinos' "Trocadero Lemon Blue", Milton Hamilton's "Disco Madness", Boogie Man Orchestra "Lady (Are You Crazy For Me)"...

Nicky - some nice finds from your own grotto indeed. Funny that you manage to surprise yourself with your own stuff...

I maintain that in terms of vinyl I know what I have (my wife disagrees). CD's is getting a lot harder, especially with all the compilation CD's coming out in the last few years.

What I like is, in those rare instances when I have some time, to enter them into the database. This of course leads to playing them as well!! It is always nice to re-disco-ver old tracks.

That Paulinho Da Costa 12" is news to me! Nicky, there is this guy you and I know who does a lot of restauration work. He typically restores albums and than ads 12" versions and so on. Do you think we could persuade him to work on this fantastic Pablo release?
    the
Or... do a double edition of "Happy People" and "Sunrise" albums, plus 12"'s.

Back to the topic, I think my most valuable vinyl is the whole 'oeuvre' (what do you call that in English: life's works?) by my hero Jacques Fred Petrus. I now own every album he has ever done. YES!

(I do not have all 12"'s and certainly not the 7"'s. I am trying to collect the collectable 12"'s, meaning those that had different versions/remixes).

The Gwen Guthrie EP containing "Padlock" that was signed by DJ Larry Levan (RIP) in 1985.

Also, my boxed set containing Salsoul Classics in Rainbow Vinyl......

I have both these records too; I never realized they were considered "rare." (Btw: I've always thought the "Ipanema" remake has a very awkward fade-out; it makes me feel like I'm missing the end of the song!)

And, oh, you don't like the Ethel Merman Disco Album, Graham? You've never mentioned that before.

Years ago a DJ friend of mine mentioned that the Merman LP was rare (though you'd never know it if you've ever looked at eBay), so I called an ex-boyfriend from 10 years earlier and asked if he still had "our" copy. He had to search but found it, then asked me to meet him for lunch so he could give it to me. (The record, that is.) So not only did I get a near-mint copy of this "rare" record, but he paid for lunch too.

Oh, I get it. You GOT free lunch and the Merman Record. Is this the same ex that made you get up to change the "Love Theme from Flashdance" record????? Every 3 minutes and 15 seconds??? (Of course, I just checked the timing)

"You will nevah forget..." anything, will you?! (Who says the memory is the first thing to go with age?! )

No, this was not the "play it again" boyfriend. The bf with the Merman LP came well before Flashdance, way back in 1979.

I think my most valued vinyl find was Kool and the Gang with their "Kool Jazz" LP from 1971. I had been looking for the LP for years, as I was fascinated by Kool's jazz beginnings. And the LP did not disappoint!!

Not having a Cd player at the time, this was a magical find for me...
