Are you talking about the That's What Friends Are For. Performed with Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder Written by Burt Bacharach.

It came up on my search easy I just typed in That's What Friends Are For lyrics.

    Verse 1
    And I
Never thought I'd feel this way
And as far as I'm concerned I'm glad I got the chance to say
That I do believe I love you

And if I should ever go away
Well then close your eyes and try to feel the way we do today
And than if you can't remember.....

    Chorus
    Keep smilin'
    Keep shinin'

Knowin' you can always count on me
    for sure
    that's what friends are for

    In good times
    And bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
    That's what friends are for

    Verse 2
Well you came and open me
And now there's so much more I see
And so by the way I thank you....

    Ohhh and then
For the times when we're apart
Well just close your eyes and know
These words are comming from my heart
And then if you can't remember....Ohhhhh

    (Repeat chorus 3x)

    (Stevie talking)
Mmmhmm thats what friends are for mmmhmm yea

Discodevil - He's probably looking for the song with the same title from her "This Is Niecy" album of 1976. She also did it as a duet with Johnny Mathis in '78.

Marmite - Have you tried searching by the writers/composers:
JUNE DENIECE WILLIAMS, CALRENCE MacDONALD, LANI GROVES, FRITZ BASKETT.

    Good luck. :)

Oh what the hell ---- I'll give it a shot. I'm telling you now --- my ears aren't what they used to be.

    Verse 1
WHILE YOU'RE GONE BOY, DO YOU WONDER HOW I SPEND MY DAY?
THINKING 'BOUT YOU AND MAYBE IN A SPECIAL WAY.
I COULD SHOW YOU I MISS YOU MORE AND MORE
'CAUSE AFTER ALL --- THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR.

    Verse 2
ARE YOU TIRED? DO YOU THINK THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO NAP?
BY THE FIRE, I WILL HOLD YOU GENTLY IN MY LAP.
AND I'LL COUNT THE MINUTES 'TIL YOU SLEEP NO MORE
'CAUSE AFTER ALL --- THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR.

    Bridge
ALL I WANT TO DO IS TO MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR YOU
SO I TRY SO HARD TO KEEP WHAT'S OURS TOGETHER.
OH THERE NEVER COULD BE ANOTHER FOR ME.

    Verse 3
ARE YOU HUNGRY... THINK THAT YOU COULD USE SOME WINE?
AND THE MUSIC... DID YOU HAVE A CERTAIN THING IN MIND?
DINNER, WINE AND MUSIC, <?Stars to bow?> (I can't catch these 3 words.)
FLUFF THE PILLOWS ON THE FLOOR AND MORE
'CAUSE AFTER ALL --- THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR.

[ad libs out - "Baby, that's what friends are for. Would you like to sit by the fire? I know I could take you higher."]

Disco Devil - It's a completely different song, as Nick Nack has proved, although perhaps someone can confirm his words.

It's a beautiful soul song and I want to adapt the words for someone special, who's going through crap at the moment with her husband dying slowly from cancer :(

Thanks Nick Nack, now go back have another listen and this time try it sober!!!

    Seriously - cheers matey :D

Neither Google or Ask Jeeves helped at all although I now know the words to Let's Hear It For The Boy off by heart ;)

I really hadn't planned to change the subject

but since we're talking about Niecy, she and Johnny Mathis did, without a question, the BEST version yet of the Bee Gees composition "Emotion". It's on his otherwise forgettable album "You Light Up My Life". It is sexy and sensual almost beyond words. I put it on a tape for one of my co-workers and she seemed to have misinterpreted it as a marriage proposal. Do yourself a favor and check it out, well worth the effort. Almost always reminds me of the Roberta Flack/Donny Hathaway duet "The Closer I Get to You".

 Maybe I should have taken a drink or two. Might have helped. I've played that song now over a dozen times and I just can't get it clearly:

STARS TO BOW (this doesn't even make sense  )
    STARS A GLOW
    STARTS TO GO
    STARTS TO FLOW

Maybe someone has the Mathis/Williams version which might be easier. Theirs is a totally different arrangement. Good luck.
