Gotta hear this Bobby Sax track, somehow!!
Hi everyone. Just submitted my top 25.
I swear it was real tough trying to pick the best songs and rank them from 1-25 as I have dozens of favourites that are equally as good and I couldn't even fit them in my top 25. I decided to take a pot shot at my picks seeing as I have so many favourites, so I went for mainly the more rarer underground disco/funk sounds to give the top 500 some rarities. Now Bernie said the era is to be between 1972 and 1986, well one of my songs in my top 25 is just outside that boundary and it is "Scorpio" by Dennis Coffey recorded in 1971. I chose this as it has one of the BEST percussion breaks for an early 70's disco/funk dance song and I listen to it a LOT so I threw it into my top 25. Now Bernie if you reject my list because of a 1971 dance song, please let me know so I can redo my top 25 because I'd hate to know that my top 25 never made it into the votes. Anyhow here's my top 25:
1 Bobby Sax & The New Messiah Out House 73 1973
2 Brass Construction Movin 1975
3 Kay Gees Hustle With Every Muscle 1975
4 Dennis Coffey Scorpio 1971
5 Isaac Hayes Chocolate Chip 1975
6 Olympic Runners Get It While You Can 1978
7 Cerrone Cerrones Paradise 1976
8 Undisputed Truth You + Me = Love 1976
9 Jackson Sisters I Believe In Miracles 1973
10 Ultra High Frequency Were On The Right Track 1973
11 Muscle Shoals Horns Born To Get Down 1976
12 Miami Party Freaks 1974
13 Creative Source Who Is He & What Is He To You 1973
14 Kay Gees Space Disco 1978
15 Softones That Old Black Magic 1975
16 Louis Ramirez Salsa 1975
17 Rufus & Chaka Khan Once You Get Started 1974
18 Love & Kisses I Found Love 1977
19 Deodato Skyscrapers 1973
20 Ultrafunk Kung Fu Man 1974
21 Jakki Sun Sun Sun 1976
22 Soul Train Gang Soul Train 75 Theme 1975
23 Soul Searchers We The People 1972
24 Eastside Connection Youre So Right For Me 1977
25 Double Exposure Ten Percent 1976
Brass Construction's "Movin'" was going to be number one until I heard Bobby Sax's "Out House 73" at funk45.com . That song KICKS ARSE!!! It has the COOLESTfast guitar wah wah disco beat for an early 70's funk/disco song and I WANT THIS RECORD REALLY BAD!!!!!!!!! I've only heard 1 minute sound sample of this song so far at funk45.com and I wish I could hear the whole song. It is SO COOL!!!!! Here's a link to the song at funk45.com http://www.funk45.com/Index.asp?funk...ch=1508&cat=id . This is a Real Audio sample, anyhow have a listen and you'll know why I think it's so cool.
I contacted the bloke "Jason" who contributed the sample of that record to funk45.com and unfortunately he has sold that record for £60 but he has given me a contact to a bloke who has a record store with that record in it so I'll contact him.
Anyhow back to the list, there is lots I would have loved to add but basically I have so many favourites that I took pot shots at choosing the songs.
Some I wanted to add were:
Fat Larry's Band - Center City 1977
Archie Bell & The Drells - Soul City Walk 1975
Paul Jabara - Honeymoon 1979
Van McCoy - Jet Setting 1976
Katmandu - The Break 1979
Isaac Hayes - Theme From Men 1972
Isaac Hayes - Groove-A-Thon 1976
Jimmy Castor Bunch - E-Man Partay 1977
Metropolis - I Love New York 1978
and many many many more.
Oh well it's no skin off my nose as I chose 25 FANTASTIC dance grooves.
Australia mate! The land of many great funkateers!

If it moves - funk it!!
That's a baby Funky
When I saw "Movin" in your top three I knew there was still hope for the world. I like the heavy funk in your list, which is not surprising.
Find them and destroy them!
I can't believe someone wrote a song about an outhouse. Must have been one smelly party.
I listened to the track. It's funky, but I prefer the hustle/disco sound to the funky early 70's sound.
Please tell me an "outhouse" isn't a outside dunnycan (toilet)?  :lol:nrgbeat wrote:

Yah, who cares about the title, it's a great funk/disco song with a really funky fast-moving guitar wah wah beat and I LOVE IT!!!
If they change the lyrics and the song title, it would fit in real well as a high speed cop car chase song in a funky early 70's cop movie like "Shaft".
